Lol MOST (not all) scrum half's are just aggressive like that cos they have size issues (once again i know not all scrum halfs are small).......(look at peter stringer so damn small but a vicious little man)!

This was from the Lions 1989 tour to Australia. This fight happened at the start of the second test at Ballymore in Brisbane. The Lions had been stuffed in the first test at Sydney and vowed to take a more physical approach. Robert Jones trod on Farr-Jones left foot when he was putting the ball in. Findlay Calder the Lions captain took out the ref so he wouldn't see what was going on!!The Lions won the series 2-1.

ballymore 89. I was there. Lions got spanked in Sydney so this was a shift in tactic... the halfback got it all started with a stomp on Farr-Jones foot, then it was on for the rest of the game...

hahahaha good on the ref......in recent fights the refs stand back and keep blowing the whistle........he dives straight in and is dragging players away

You are entitled to perceive this comment however you like, but as a ref I have to dispute the comments which say that it was so much better in the good ol' days. Fighting is not, believe it or not, part of the game. There are enough ways that are perfectly within the law to get really hard digs in on your opponent. As to the ref's reaction, it is not a good idea to jump into a fight like that, even if you intend to stop it. He then cannot see what is going on and he runs the risk of getting a good smack himself. Most fights are over in less than 30 seconds and it is better (and, indeed referees are even coached in this way) to adopt a neutral position and blow the hell out of the whistle.Sorry that this post was so long but I really fail to undertand the mentality of people who like swinging fists on the rugby field. That is why boxing was invented!

have you seen the size of players now, almost 3 times the size of those players, just imagine trying to drag lomu, tuilangi or someone like that off of the guy they wanted to kick seven shades of **** out of

Go on Mike Teague!!!! Man of the series if I remember correctly! we lost the first test and decided to give ther Aussies a taste of their own medicine. What a great Lions tour and full on rugby from both sides. Both teams were legends and Australia were the best team in the world at the time but the Lions forwards unbelievably led by Finlay Caulder bullied and battered the Aussies pack to win the series!!, c'mon GLAWS!!!!
