Phillip Burger insane dive

is that not deemed dangerous by the refs?! i mean his boots are head height when he does that.........i think its cool though, but i was wondering whether he could get warned for dangerous play or something?!

There is currently no law for self-inflicted dangerous play, except on the Lineout (lifters are responsible for bringing the jumper down).However, the referees could ding him for 10.4(k) -- Acts Contrary to Good Sportsmanship. If a ref did that, the SANZAR would never give him another match. Also, you'd be cracking down on all the other showboating, which SANZAR is unlikely to do.Personally, I think they should self-regulate this masepoes. Next time he jumps in the air, a opponent should just take a hit and helicopter his ass. Maybe after he spends 2 years rehabbing himself, he'll aprpeciate some humility.

I'm guessing that anonymous who called Burger a mase*oes is a bulls supporter. Only someone who had to endure 4 tries against them by the same player in the same season would have mindless one eyed view to call him such a name. Anyway... I think Burger is one of the most talented and under-rated players in South Africa. It is sad that he is playing in a position that is mostly reserved for the quota system. The fact that Chavanga, Paulse and Willemse got selected above him just goes to show that the future looks bleak for the springboks. I loved the way we thrashed England this past weekend and it shows the guts and determination of the current squad to perform at such a level even though all the political bullsh1t is flying about just above their heads. I'd put a thousand bucks on it that Philip Burger packs his bags at the end of the season and heads of to play in Europe somewhere. He can make twice the amount of money he is currently earning and the selectors have sent him a clear political message.

if he comes to europe that ego of his is gonna get his jaw broken. nothing against south africans in general but that man is a prick, if he broke his neck he'd deserve it, and it would keep the crowd happy

Lighten Up!! Philip Burger is just having a bit of fun. He loves the game, and he makes it exiting to watch. You do not know him, he is the most unassuming, humble person on the planet.

I was lucky enough to train with Phil Burger during the Dubai 7's. He is the quickest player I have shared a park with and has the skills to match - even during training he couldn't help but show off his pace and skills - and I would do the same if I had them!!

ive scored a try somewhat similar to this but without the height and it was a cartwheel. I have been told by my coach that you can get done by the ref for dangerous play (studs in air) so don't think ill be trying that anymore!

Great to see.However, is it illegal to tackle him when he does that? On one hand you're tackling a bloke in the air, but on the other hand, if I remember correctly, it's illegal for the player with the ball to jump into the tackle...

a mate of mine flipped over the line in a sevens match a while ago and the try was disallowed for "showboating".. somehting to do with raising his legs over his head but im not sure.. :S

haha spectacular dive, but is it really something to praise him about? When he was risking himself an injury, or worse the try for his team? However it is the try he that should be remembered, skillfully set up, great pace and vision. Nice try!!

waw! That's amazing!But i think it's stupid.He has the time to ga a litte bit closer to the center so the kicker had a more easy kick...Luckily he didn't get injured and hopefully the coach says something about it..and it was a team effort ....

hi this dive is crazy and ive seen people break ribs doing things like it. but granted it does gain attention like toby flood he did a dive just like this and hes starting all the time now.

Don't really like showboating in rugby but he scored a try and can do whatever the hell he wants....at least he doesn't showboat like NFL players...NFL players showboating take it way over the top but that's another story

look at the centre (no 13) after the try, he puts his hands up for a high five n Burgers like 'Sod off!!', so he looks like he was just goin in for the hug. Funny stuff. It looks good but he could really hurt himself doin that. It would be so funny if he dropped it, like other people do in other vids on here...

whats wrong with showing off? he is clearly a great rugby player, and if he would have just grounded it, the try would have just looked like another try. burgers efforts made the try. its not unfair, or showing any disrespect to his opponents, and it was fantastic to watch.
