Jimmy Cowan nails opposite number Fourie Du Preez

Jimmy Cowan nails Fourie Du Preez

Jimmy Cowan is a grumpy man, there's no two ways about it. If ever you've seen him play you'll know that the Highlanders halfback is generally very moody and loves the odd scuffle.

Perhaps it's the fact that he's virtually a Justin Marshall clone but has probably never quite lived up to the quality of the legendary All Black.

Whatever the case, in this clip from this year's Super 14 he absolutely smashes Bulls halfback Fourie Du Preez as he peels away from the scrum.

Great hit, and there's nothing better than seeing the little guys go at it.

Cowan is one of the best defensive halfbacks in the world. He has to be when he plays for the battling Highlanders and Stags. His poor running game doesn't help his All Black chances.

Halfback is a generalised term like

forwards (Props, Hookers, Locks/second row, flankers and number 8)

backs (center, wing and fullback)

Halfbacks are scrum half and flyhalf

Allblack vs Springbok... What do you expect? ha ha

Nah seriously, their both great Halfbacks... jimmy has really picked up the pace in the last 2 years and Fourie has always been class.

In NZ we have slightly different names for positions, and since we have always used these terms who is to say if they are right or not ;-)

... anyway we call No.9 a halfback and No.10 1st Five Eighth and No.12 2nd Five Eighth, and then 11, 13, 14 are the Three Quarter line

... simple really :-)

You cant Compare Cowan with Du Preez As Du Preez is just at another level. He always takes the hit or makes sure he draws the man far better than Cowan.
