Fijis historic conquering of Wales

Fijis historic conquering of Wales

A global audience of millions witnessed one of the most spectacular games of World Cup rugby on saturday as Wales and Fiji met in the all important Pool B decider in Nantes.

Fiji got off to a flying start, leading 25-3 at one stage with everything going right for them. They controlled play beautifully and then let loose with their devastating backs, Sevens star Vilimoni Delasau having a particularly good game.

Wales came back though, and when Martyn Williams scored an intercept try it looked as if it were over for Fiji.

The Fijians kept fighting though, and with four minutes left they snuck a try that gave them the belief they needed. Flyhalf Nicky Little, who sadly seriously injured his leg shortly before full time, converted the try with a vital kick that insured the Welsh wouldn't be able to slot a dropkick or penalty to win it.

This classic ended with the south sea islanders in front and meant that for the first time sing 1987, Fiji will be in the Quarter Finals of the World Cup. It also meant that Wales will be going home, with their coach subsequently having been sacked.

Final Score: 38 - 34 to Fiji
Music: Quarashi - Stick 'Em Up

well done by wales to come back and take the lead. but personally i always like to watch the welsh get beaten and the bigger the event the better. same bout ireland today and its bad that only the former world champions and scotland got through from the UK countries.Come on the WORLD CHAMPIONS

Well, considering the northern part of Ireland is still being claimed by the Crown, my math says 2/3 teams made it.If you POMs don't want the blame (on the pitch), then don't make the claim (of the empire)

2/4. check that

Great video from a fan's perspective. Most videos are single-sided (one team's achievements).Typical Fijian flair, but the aerial view of Shane Williams... man, it almost seemed he needed the afro and the palm tree on his jersey -- a page out of Fiji's book.Best of luck to Fiji -- they are representing the underdogs the rest of the way.

cheyanqui, there are 6 players of northern irish nationality in the 30 man irish squad. so if you want to be pedantic, which you clearly do, then it's 2 uk teams out of 3 and a fifth.and i'm not a fucking pom.

Fiji played a physical game and somewhat dirty at times. Its going to be great to see south Africa and fiji go at it. SA being the dirtiest team for late tackles and taking a bite at players, dam cannibals. I predict 2 yellow cards and one red for sure, let them destroy each other so the rest of our teams can play good clean rugby.

Wonderful game, and good for Fiji for sticking through that. I'm going for them against SA (although unlikely), and as far as they take this, as well as NZ.

Apart from the arsehole english supporters some fair comments(im Welsh by the way!). Fiji deserved their win, Wales were tactically naive trying to play 7's against the best in the World! Come on Scotland and England in the quarter finals and even France against the Blacks!

Got to of been the match of the tournament, I'm welsh and sometimes its heartbreaking the way we play...3 match saving tries in the opening 10mins of the second half, and what do we do? throw the game away all over again. Lovely run by Shane Williams.

You can keep Bryan Habana, Shane Williams = best winger in the world, IMO. And thats saying something, seeing as I'm English. I dont care about rivalries between nations and stuff like that (although i do hate Australia and NZs arrogance, Aussies saying they hate all English people made our win over them in the 1/4 finals even more satisfying) and i could say Jason Robinson beats Williams, but tbh Williams is already showing more pace, flair and creativity than Robinson has done in his 7-year Union career. The welsh side in general let themselves down by being quite limited in some aspects, but when they get the ball moving their a devastating side, and they have great team spirit, but the best team won that game, well done Fiji for creating the most exciting game ever...ill never forget Will Greenwood, who was commentating on this game, yelling just before the final whistle went "its over wales have lost!!", not in a nasty way, just out of pure shock - noone expected it. Well done Fiji, and good luck to Wales in the Six nations in a few months time.

For every fan or rugby lover out there that says high tackles and cheap shots are the reasons why the games lack sportmanship, why don't you go play with your dolls. It's a hard game, with full contact. If the palyers aren't complaining, why are you. Some bad stuff creeps in there but every player knows to expect, besides there is no greater injustice then watching top tier nations deprive smaller, enthusiastic, rugby playing countries of the help they need while stealing all their talented young players.

David February 11, 2008 12:28 pm

er, looks like someone has a chip or their shoulder, its not as if top tier nations come and steal the players in the middle of the night. its the players choice, play for your country or play for the money.

at least we went out in entertaining fashion to an exiting side! Thats the way rugby should be played not like England who just keep the ball with their giant, fat, ugly forwards before giving it to jonny wilkinson who drops a goal or kicks a penalty. Glad to see huge imoblile packs are dying out with some of the ELVs. Some argument though for reducing the amount a drop goal is to 2-or increasing a conversion to 3. anyway for some reason we cant beat the pacific islanders at the world cup! Samoa were out bogie team and now the Fijians aswell!gutted england got through to the knoockout stages playing negative rugby. well done Fiji though. end of rant.lol -kiwiwelshboy
