Matthew Tait try & brilliant try saver
Tait, who famously started his career as a young eighteen year old who got absolutely humiliated by Gavin Henson , is now coming into his own and proving to be a classy centre with a huge future ahead of him.
Against Saracens the Flacons started well and in the third minute Tait received a beautifully timed pass from another quality youngster, Toby Flood.
Tait timed the angle of his run perfectly and headed for the corner, outpacing the extremely quick Brent Russell , leaving him for dead in much the same way the Springbok management have.
The second moment of excellence from Tait came after big All Black lock Chris Jack had a mesmerising run down field before popping the ball to Rodd Penney who looked to have flown in for a certain try, despite the tackles of Tait and Wilkinson.
Tait somehow got himself between the ball and the turf though, and after the TMO decision, it was clear to see the try had been prevented. Great play Matthew Tait.

Great try, Tait's a very good rugby player and looks set to do great things (hopefuly not against wales though). Can't stand that commentator though. If possible could you put up Shane Williams/James Hook's try against the Scarlets from last seasons Magners League? Was probably the best try from last seasons tournament so would be very grateful, cheers!

What Tait did on offense is not that impressive, he's fast...ok? so what? if you are not fast you wouldn't be a wing now would you?As for the defense....my only question is, is what he did legal? I dont think it is but someone might need to educate me.

Nice play! I remember watching Tait play sevens and was very impressed, its great for England thats hes finally finding his feet in Union (although after his performance in the World Cup Final you could argue he already found them)Also i heard that he is the quickest player in the England Squad (even with Jason Robinson playing!)

Fraser.He is most likely the fastest player in the England setup, but that will all change when Tom Varndell is re-selected.Back on topic, very skillful play from Tait there. Hope to see more of the same from him in the 6 nations...

Don i'm guessing your not a Matthew Tait fan, yes wingers have to have pace but he cut a great angle and did well to go past Russell. There was nothing wrong with what he did in defence, you can keep the ball up off the try line with whatever part of your body you like.

Varndell is extremely fast but last time i saw him for England i wasn't very impressed...do you think he will be reselected?

I think that Tait, Flood, Wilkinson setup in club rugby is brilliantly setting up the back line for England. I think Tait, Flood and David Strettle are the guys too watch this 6 nations. It is refreshing to see promise from young english players, rather than dipping in to the arcives of such ledgends as Robinson etc. no matter how good they are.

Don, Tait isn't a wing. And yes, 100% legal infact. Eng are in good stead for the future with the backs they currently have. Not sure about Varndell. So much talk and not much evidence of quality.. yet anyway. Hopefully he proves me wrong.

As an Irishman I'm terrified at the prospect of tait, flood, cipriani, strettle and hegarhty all coming through for England. Good to see tait coming back from that embarrassment in Cardiff all those years ago. Woodward shouldn't have brought him in so young

As a tigers fan, I can tell you Varndell has been in great form this season, and fully deserves a call up to the 32 man squad. He offers more on the wing than, say, Cueto does, and with guys like Flood who can create space he will thrive.He is no longer a liability making tackles (he dump tackled Toulouse's blind side flanker earlier in the season) and his positioning is now much better. He last played for England as a raw 20 year old for a scratch England team, he totally deserves another chance based on his form his season.But this all about Tait here, I think with the wealth of talent at 13 he could prove to be a great fullback. Don mate I have to say you're wrong - look at the timing and angle of the run, and the acceleration. Great play - very good for a fullback. Defensively thats all fine as well, he hasn't done anything even close to being illegal. Brilliant player.

Wasnt it Andy Robinson that brought Tait into the england team against wales?? not woodward??, then after the performance he ditched him. Probably destroying his confidence! Andy Robinson was a disaster for England!

gud try but even better tacklethere was also a big hit in this match made by jonny wilkinsonhes not my fav player but he is a gud kicker and i think england rely on him too muchanyway the hit he made was very big on a very big manlove to see it on here hopefully someone can get it up

Jonny wilkinson hit was on saracens back rower chesney I think. Wud be cool to see it again. Awesome work from tait their especially the defence.

being a kiwi this sounds weird but i would like to see cipriani at flyhalf and flood at inside centrefor england, as for varndell i think he deserves a re-call hes been playin exceptionally well and tait ive always rated put him anywhere in the side and he will still be effective just my opinion, england needs to think outside the box aka look past wilkinson he wont be there forever

i think it's going to be cipriani taking wilkinsons position in a few years. As for Tait, great game and awesome line for the try, came from full back to outnumber the defence and make the try.I wouldn't say England relies too much on Wilkinson any more. His kicking wasn't up to the usual standard in the 2007 world cup, but he lifts the team and still supplies the ball well.Good to see a wealth of talent coming through though.

Really good try. I'm not sure why it apparently takes no skill (though more from flood I think). Tait has to avoid pulling the drift defence by following the wingers outside channel, and not over-running, then straightens. Gassing Brent Russel (who has done the same to Rico Gear before) is just a bonus and good finishing. Flood creates so much time for himself.I asked on here if this try could be posted, so cheers if that was taken note of, good work.

Don,First of all it was quite impressive in that he was quick off the mark and chose his line well and that both were timed for the pass. It wasn't just speed that outdid the Saracens defence.Secondly, it was perfectly legal as he was just keeping the guy from grounding the ball. This occurrence happens all the time.

Tait timed his run well, and the gap was made by the back outside him sucking that defender in. the pace that he joined the line at also made it look really impressive. good skills from tait there.but everyone knows russell is not strong defensively and you can see russell taking the easy option and holding back the inside line so that tait wouldnt step him. russell was close enough to attempt a tackle but he couldnt be bothered.tait's try saver was good, good committment. ive enjoyed watching making his bursts onto the internaitonal season.

Try was well finished but with his pace you would expect him to leave a lock for dead. Try save was a bit fortunate that he got his thigh under the ball but he tracked the man back so good work. Chris Jack break was superb, he is such a lanky bean must be a nightmare to tackle all bony elbows and knees.

Isn't Mathew Tait spelled with one T not two? He's got such skill, that's a great clip, and what a game for Newcastle! I would love to see a clip of Wilko's hit on Chesney too, if there's one around anywhere.I have to agree about the commentator, very funny and strangely irritating. Especially with the 'that is quite brilliant!' and 'Tait has soooooooooo much skill'.

yeh don...he didnt have to make the offence seem impresive and thats what make it so good because he can naturally get that kind of space and exploit it with ease!and hes got so much more then just pace thats why he can play wing, centre or full back each needing a variety of different skills. also, what he did in defence is absolutely legal and was brilliant.also in return to the anonymous reply to fraser, the england u21 coach mentioned that he thought there wouldnt be any difference between tom varndell and mathew tait over a 100m sprint so i wouldnt deffinately say varndell is quicker its just mathew taits running style is unique and makes him look different to other runners

What a try! Tait also proved to be a great player in the final match of the RWC 07 with a long run which almost ended in a try. Anyways, Iwould love to see more from Argentinian players, that played great rugby during the whole past year. So if you please, show us more from them.
