Awesome Cedric Heymans tribute
After a weekend in which we saw the French running riot against the Irish in the Six Nations, one player who I think really deserves a mention is the enigmatic Cedric Heymans.
Heymans was involved if most of the tries, and certainly played a huge role in Vincent Clerc achieving a first half hatrick.
An exciting runner who looks extremely dangerous when joining the line from fullback or when getting open space as a wing, Cedric Heymans also adds an excellent kicking game to his repertoire and is fast cementing his place as one of the French stars of the season.
I received a link to this excellent video from a guy named Camilo Gonzlez, who himself has put together a really good tribute to a great player who has scored some amazing tries of late for both Toulouse and his country France.

The try against Clermont is sick! I saw him early on and he had unreal pace but he used to kick ALL the time - very frustrating. Glad Lievremont is encouraging him to run with ball in hand - reaping dividends already!

He's class. He really came back from his horror show against Argentina in the WC. I was hoping Ireland would've tried the garyowen on him a bit more....but he probably would've just caught it and ran over murphy :( Bloody Murphy.

Awesome!!!! That second try, where he does that in and away! Just sweet to watch! Man, what a legend! And then he just puts the after burners on to finish it off! Actually all his in and aways are pure class...take a lesson kiddies, that's how you make the opposition stop and then burn them on the outside...or inside, Superstar

Great work.. But he scored so many others, which looked just as good !!Best player in Europe right now ? Based on current form, he is... with Vincent Clerc, too.anyone agree on that ?

he's quick but who isn't at that level. i hope for his sake that none of his opposition watch this video as they'll pretty soon see he's only got one move. 'one move!?' you may say, but it's true, he only EVER steps off his right foot. watch the clip again if you doubt me. this makes him pretty one dimensional and i'm surprised he's been allowed to get away with it for so long.

yes well he is certaintly up there in top 3 anyway wit clerc and o gara maybe. and i know many of you will say o gara shouldnt be there but he is the only reason ireland beat italy and came close to beating france because his teritory kicking is best in the world nd he should prob be irelands captain unless o'connell comes back not BOD

BOD is a lot more consistant and i think has better leadership, if o'garas kicking goes tits up you can see it affects him badly, he doesnt need more pressure.Brian Ashton said the same about wilko, saying that he has a lot to concentrate on (kicking and his own game) and being captain would be added pressure!and ofcourse BOD is blatantly a class act!

Re- comment from anonymous #3 on Heymans' one-dimensionality: most vids show him rushing along the left wing in positions where outside step is the best option, hence the step off his right foot on most of THESE occasions. His try with Toulouse against Clermont-Auvergne (last one in the vid) clearly demonstrate that he can run fantastic angles and is exactly the opposite of a one-dimensional player. It costs me since I am a Clermont-Auvergne fan but he is simply the best winger/full-back in France (Europe?) at the moment (although full-back may be debatable I guess). For me, he has extra vista and passing skills than Clerc (who's playing amazingly at the moment). Not difficult to imagine that the two of them together run riots this season.Wishes from Trinidad, West Indies, where I badly miss the odd shaped balls!! Thanks for the site. It's vital when you don't have access to game coverage! Keep on the great job!

He is stronger on his right, meaning greater forces can be applied when he steps off, and if you saw the video, you will see his side step launch gains quite a few yards on the defender every time.

Well O'Gara seems to handle the pressure of being Munster captain well this season. And I would have agreed about O'Gara being hot and cold 3 and more seasons ago he's gone to being very consistent for Munster and Ireland (world cup excluded when the whole squad feel apart).I'm not saying he should be captain but he's certainly taken on and can handle a lot more responsibility.BOD needs to get his form sorted out. The consistent injuries he's picking up is ruining him and his confidence.

I'd hardly say the french were "running riot" because dont forget their first 3 tries were all break away tries and the 2nd and 3rd were irish mistakes - the only reason france won that match was because they had a much faster back 3 and the irish defence was poor.

Re- Sean: fair point indeed regarding the exploitation of the other teams mistakes during the first two 6N games. That being said, putting pressure on the the other team with an "all attacking" philosophy is an excellent way to provoke mistakes from the opponent. And to me, you don't score three tries from break away without a minimum of vista. Granted that the opponents were not particularly imaginative those days.... All the same, when you spend your time running backward to catch up with speedy backs playing wide, you are bound to have defending issues (and the Irish backs are not that fast as you rightly pointed out). Tactics, really. Now what bothers me about the French is more their second string of front and second rowers. Don't look very competitive to me and Ireland really got that right in the second half. England will do just the same...

why France didn't pick him to start during the 6-nations is beyond me, he didn't even start against us, (grandslammers) he always manages to look so dangerous with ball in hand.
