Jamie Noon great hit against Italy

Jamie Noon great hit against Italy

There were a few decent hits on Sunday in the Six Nations game between England and Italy in Rome. Paul Sackey was one of the contenders for hit of the week with his well timed tackle on the Italian (edit) flanker after an Andy Gomersall up and under.

In my opinion though the biggest hit was this Jamie Noon cruncher. Italian New Zealander Kane Robinson felt the brunt of it and got rocked backwards after receiving a pass that wasn't too kind.

Noon lined him up and waited, then hit him hard. Great technique and perfectly legal.
Excuse the commentator thinking it was Wilkinson though. Easy mistake to make I guess.

You should also point out that at the beginning of the clip Noon is the guy to the right of the ruck laying face down being treated by the physio. He'd just got his forehead cut open by a stray boot.If you watch the clip, you can see him at the top of the screen get up and make the tackle. He only THEN goes off to get stitched up.the guys as hard as nails.

I'm pleased Noon's been given another chance, I always felt he was unfairly dropped and now that he's in a backline that has some flair he should do well. What Ashton needs to do though is cut loose some of his World Cup heroes and start selecting on form rather than past heroics. Gomarsall should be gone, he's way behind the pace of the game. Wilko had a good first half but just isn't dynamic enough any more - what about Geraghty? As for Balshaw, good God, how many chances has that guy had? He hasn't played well since 2001 but Ashton doesn't have the imagination to select a really dynamic back three. We hear all about the golden age of young players in English rugby but there are precious few in the squad. This problem of hanging on to players who are past their sell by date has plagued us since 2003 - Woodward did it, Robinson did it and now Ashton is falling into the same trap. Mind you we're not the only ones - the golden generation of Irish players is still hanging around and holding the Irish team back long after the gold has lost its sparkle...

I don't think Ireland's in as bad a situation as England but I agree some players are stale and cullen, fitzgerald, bowe, jennnings, healy and gleeson deserve a chance ! I'dlike to see geraghty playing for England he's class.Parisse is unbelievable. Best no 8 in the world ? He's gotta be in the top 3....Third Centre.

I totally agree agree with will, put geraghty at fly half, wigglesworth at scrum half he's been fantastic for Sale all seaon, I'd also put Cipriani in at full back he's played there for wasps several time and has fantastic ability when joining the back line in open play as we all know,

As always, great vid RD!But on a side note, the Sackey hit you mention wasn't on Bortolussi, the 15, but Mauro Bergamasco, the flanker! IMO this makes it more impressive, but I still think Noon's is better. Keep up the great work!

Nothing wrong with the pass, the guy just thought he'd be able to run through Noon. Big mistake.

"Oew, that has got to hurt" was my reaction when I saw this, great tackle and stood his ground.Yet Parisse was truly the man of the match, he was bloody everywhere, as should be expected from a No. 8. He can even kick better than an average back. I expected a match alike the first half but was immensely pleased by the second, truly a great show by the Italians. They resembled the French and southern nations, alot of open play and balls into the backline, great, keep it up!England, well, the commentators said it twice already, and twice they were right: "What have you done, England?!"Now a weekend no reason to watch TV. Please let the weather be good. :-)

Fantastic hit.I think Noon has to be definite selection now, the only similar player was Tindall and he's out for the rest of the Six Nations. It would just be nice to see the Backs linking up a bit better, with the potential they've got we should have walked all over Italy in the second half.

To be fair though the italians open play had little penetration. They just went from side to side. It was only when the changed scrum halves did anything really happen from the italian back line.Third Centre

Brilliant hit!Now Tindall's out, it has to be Noon at 13, with Flood inside him and Tait at full-back. And ,yeah, I agree with the other guys, it has to be Geraghty at 10. Wilkinson's not dynamic enough anymore and Ryan Lamb and Danny Cipriani are amazing on their day but poor on others. They don't have Geraghty's consistency (and he's pretty damn brilliant to watch as well!)

He can tackle yes. But what else does he do?!No gas either. Bring Tait into the centres I say, or at least at fullback. Balshaw gives me nightmares. He is clueless
