London Irish push Toulouse close with two great tries

London Irish push Toulouse close with two great tries

The first Heineken Cup semi-final on Saturday was a close affair that was fiercely contested, surprisingly for some. New kids on the block, London Irish, up against three time champions Toulouse had the French team as the odds on favourites.

But London Irish silenced their critics by proving they have a right to be there early in the first half with an impressive running display from winger Topsy Ojo.

Ojo scored a excellent try which was part of a Man of the Match performance from him in the end.

Samoan flier, Sailosi Tagicakibau did the same off first phase in the second half, giving the Englishmen hopes of their first ever Heineken Cup final.

In the end, despite French star Cedric Heymans' two missed tackles, that led to the two tries, the star-studded Toulouse outfit was too much for the Irish as they march on to yet another Heineken Cup final showdown.

For the neutral, it was great to see Toulouse have to work hard for their place in the final, which will be against the winner of Sunday's game between Munster and Saracens.

Note: We'll try get a clip of the Munster/Saracens game up as soon as possible so please bare with us

2 good tries :)PS: I'd love to see Donguy's tackle on Leguizamon after an Irish scrum in the second half, that was very good from a winger ;)

whatcha mean "from a winger" ???!!us wingers very often are extremely complete defenders!! often having to make up for the missed tackles of other positions!! lolJust kiddin, I kno what you mean lol ;) That Donguy was bigger than Leguizamon, so it wasn't all that amazing, and he did run straight into it! lol!

Hehe Mr Anonymous, I'm a fullback and i know that it's not that easy to tackle a N8 like that, even if he has just gone out of the scrum. ;)

so much for the fullback being the last line of defense.

Cedric Heymans was not having a great day, that is for sure.. But you will not see him do such a thing again any time soon.. He is sheer class, whether he missed those tackles or not. I am sure he'll shine in the final.

I don't get the Toulouse guys coming into the tryzone and hugging the Irish players after the first try.was the try that big of a surprise that the opposition would celebrate it?

Frenchy, the one Toulouse try was okay, and the other was a pushover try. Not much to marvel about. These were the highlights of the game unfortunately. But maybe they'll apear later in the week somewhere...

It's important to say that Toulouse had to deal with a lot of important injured players in their back line (CLerc, Poitrenaud, Fritz, Kunavore...). They had only one back substitute and Yannick Nyanga their flanker had to play wing during the game. They played with a lot of courage, bravo Toulouse!

Great tries but well done to Toulouse. And well done to Saracens today on pushing Munster all the way in a very tight game. Hope to see some of the highlights from that soon !

it was a gret match, i didn't know the 2 "irish" wingers. very fast despite the 2 missed tackles.toulouse defended welli think that toulouse had just 1 fullback on their bench! because of clerc/poitrenaud/fritz/kunavore injuries...nyanga played winger 10 minutes!

I'm from Toulouse and must say I was quite suprised not to have the full highlights!Almost seems the London irish won!Sharky, I play rugby and team tries are much more impressive and interesting to me than individual ones!By the way, n2 William Servat, scorer, was elected man of the match by French viewers and that's quite rare in a match. And I'd like to add... QUI NE SUTE PAS N'EST PAS TOULOU...SAIN!!!ALLEZ TOULOUSE!!!!
