Digby Ioane suspended for dangerous spear tackle

Digby Ioane suspended for dangerous spear tackle

Queensland winger Digby Ioane has been suspended by the SANZAR judiciary for a spear tackle in the Super 14 this last weekend.

Ioane was suspended for four matches after pleading guilty to the dangerous tackle on Canterbury Crusaders centre Casey Laulala in Brisbane on Saturday.

Ioane was given a yellow card on the field despite the touch judge and referee clearly considering a red at the time, watched ever so closely by Reds captain James Horwill.

Laulala, the victim who had his face driven into the turf, got up and resumed play after some medical attention.

Queensland are already out of the running for a spot in the playoffs but face the Waratahs in the final round, which Ioane will of course miss due to the suspension.

Strange that Ioane tried to put on the puppyface and pretend he did nothing wrong there. Maybe it was just a timing and balance thing, but damn that looked dangerous.

can someone explain me why he has a '24' on the back of his shirt?-flanker6He probably got blood all over his jersey, or it got ripped, and when that happens a player may switch jerseys (teams usually have a couple of spares with numbers 23-30or something). Big spear tackle.. whats with all the illegal tackles this season?

What does everyone reckon?Should've been given a Red? Or was Yellow the right decision. For mine, should've been given Red.

Tialata got a week for a similar tackle...4 weeks? I've thought that, in suspensions, that semi-finals should be worth 2games, and finals 3games, so if you are suspened for 3 games, a week from the last round and your team makes the final, you only have to miss the last round and the semi...just a thought! or a points system, where different games of different importance, are given points...just a thought...and 4weeks? they only got one game left??? does he serve out the other 3 next year??? what if he moves clubs...this always confused me... side note: was a great game! reds butchered a chance to upset the crusaders, could of still won with 3 mins to go, just by holding the ball and getting into place to drop kick or get a penalty...well, i guess that's why they're at the bottom of the table...

I really don't know if he drove dude into the ground coz sometimes u lift a guy the wrong way and let him go, gravity makes the guy land on his face...i guess it's a yellow. But I'm not sure if he drove the guy's head into the ground with his left shoulder...But hey, that's why I'm not a referee.

firstly, he has a 24 on his back becase he is eaither a late raplacement prior to the match or the shirt he was wearing at the start of the mattch got badly damaged (blood/torn etc...)secondly, watch how Mark Lawrence (referee) has the red card out at first and then switches to yellow.
