Danny Cipriani suffers serious injury - out of NZ tour
Cipriani looks destined to miss England's tour of New Zealand after sustaining what is said to be a dislocated ankle after being tackled by Ollie Barkley in the 49th minute. He found himself at the bottom of a ruck, shouting out in pain as England manager Martin Johnson watched from the stands.
Medics arrived immediately and gave the 20-year-old fly-half oxygen treatment before he was carried off on a stretcher and taken to hospital by ambulance.
Cipriani was set to start in the No 10 jersey against the All Blacks after starring in England's Six Nations finale against Ireland.
He had ousted World Cup hero Jonny Wilkinson as England's first choice fly-half but if Wasps' worst fears are realised he now faces a lengthy spell of rehabilitation.
We wish him a speedy recovery after this terrible injury that will surely put him out of what would have been an incredible tour for such a youngster.

Thats horrible.. you can hear him screaming in pain.. that sent shivers down my spine. I hope he recovers, and gets well soon.

That is nasty, just after the ref blows his whistle you can see how nasty the injury is when the camera goes back to him. Can't begin to imagine the pain he's in. Hope he gets well soon.

Johnson said that Wilko is still first choice, but that still a sickening blow for all England fans. Geraghty gets his chance though.

A nasty injury but u know hes the kind of player that will be able to bounce back from it n come back even more determined. I cant help but think that NZ might have got of lucky there.

That's an awful injury... Massive blow to him and to England really. England without their 2 world class outside halfs is akin to Wales without their 2 main scrum halves =(

Horribly unfortunate. I really really feel for him and hope he makes a full, speedy recovery. Such a shame he won't be available for NZ, it would have been a real opportunity for him to really stake his claim for the England no. 10 shirt.

Well said stevoirl. Thats awful, i really feel for Cipriani.Anyone who revels in a player getting injured. Knows nothing about rugby and is a c*nt

Gutted for Cip's.Rugby Dump needs to send a collective /everyones best wishes, he's an amazing talent and sets the pitch alight when he's on it.

Feel really bad for Cip's a huge setback for a great prospect!Hopefully he'll get his chance in NZ again another time. Tht picture is awful(Link from anon) reminds me of Eduardo's ankle.

oh dear that does look really bad very similar to eduardo, such a shame for a young player when that tour would have been an incredible experience. it takes a lot to get rugby players screaming in pain i just hope he gets better quickly. (and i'm welsh so that Irish guy really had no excuse)

Great link to see the photo of it. Not nice and a blow for England. Who gets a big chance now? Barkley? Hope he has a speedy recovery.

[to anonymous's comments] What kind of rugby fan wishes for his team's relative success by the attrition of the opposition?It's not like this is some rugby goon getting his rugby karma back in spades, like say:- (depending on who you ask) Martin Johnson, Bakkies Botha- (ask ANYONE) Duncan McRae or Willie MasonThis is a young guy who to date, has a clean record, a good nature, and has only given rugby fans glimpses of a bright future.It's a terrible injury in general, particular for a player who needs quick changes of direction and pace.Hope he gets better. And as a non-England fan, I hope I don't rue my goodwill too much!

sky sports are saying it may be a dislocated ankle, which i dont believe, looks horrible completely fubar'ed. bad luck for the guy hope he gets well soon

I know how he feels, i dislocated my shoulder twice in a year, i thought i was ready to play again after the first time after about 9-10 months of treatment, then i did it again. It takes such a long time to recover and every time you dislocate a part of the body it is almost guaranteed it will happen again. Hope he recovers soon

Awful injury, hope he recovers as he is a real talent, Guardian today saying it could be career ending. Really hope not as I expect him and James Hook to have some great battles over the next few years.

goddammit. i think he's the most dynamic player in the english squad, and as a Wasps and England fan, seeing this was a real blow. fuckin ell Bigkev, bad luck mate! dislocations are nasty. ive had a 2 season injury free run (not counting the occasional split eye-brow, sprained finger,...) thank god. respect going out to all injured rugby players, and a speedy recovery to you all.

theres a difference between dislocated and fractured, football player eduardo had a fracture, Cipriani could have just dislocated the ankle, i hope he did, thats also painfull but the recover is faster.wish him well.

that link picture (link posted somewhere hereabove) proves it wasn't just a dislocation, but a bad fracture toohope he'll recover completely, he's still young, but it'll take a lot of time (months)

It's a dislocated fracture, so both.Yikes, poor lad. 6 months out of the game, will probably miss the Autumns as well.

a horrendous break for such a talented player. my best wishes go to him. watched the highlights on the BBC and was looking for it, it was very nasty, his foot was pointing straight out to the side. which means that it was a break as well as dislocation cos thats the way hinge joints work. he can be back and will be, just gives others the chance

I really feel for him, dislocations are so bad. I dislocated big toe last year and it took about 8 hrs to put it back in (eventually had to be knocked out) and its still not back in properly. I have no knuckle, only bents the wrong way and is totally numb lol. so i really feel sorry, an ankle must be soooo much worse.Being scottish, it takes alot for me to feel for the man who is prob gonna instagate many a win over us in the future lol

You often hear the cliche "putting their bodies on the line, week in, week out" trotted out regularly. So regularly in fact that to some degree it loses its meaning (well at least to me). You start to lose site of what these guys do go through and the risks they are taking playing this sport.When you do see something like this it makes you appreciate again what these guys put themselves through for what really is just entertainment (did I really just say that? It's so much more than just entertainment)I wish Mr Cipriani the speediest of recoveries and hope this doesn't effect what promises to be a sparkling career.

As horrible as the injury is, and the obvious pain Cipriani was in. Thoughts that it is a career ending injury should be ingored.Coming from a medical family (parents and sisters are in the medical profession) I believe Danny will have had open reduction and internal fixation surgery.This means that the ankle would've immediately been put back in place and the joint fixed with metal screws, in theory it will already be fixing, it just takes around two months for the joint to reform and all the ligamnents to heal. Once this is done it is just a question of regaining the strength in the ankle, which I'm sure the Wasps guys will be more than capable of.So horrific, yes, career threatining, no.Best wishes to Danny

on another note,Notice in the picture.. great to see the Bath physio right there to try and help out.proves not only how serious the injury was, but that when really bad things happen, we are still gentlemen.. (like Tana Umaga putting his opponent into a recovery position)

Thats horrible you can see at 13 seconds his ankle is really bad thats gonna take some time to get over. Always sad to see a player injured like that.

Few weeks ago you were asking the type of videos we want to see on rugbydump. This video is of the type I'd prefer not to see. I guess it reminds me that this kind of thing can happen to me every sunday...
