Tonderai Chavhanga's six try debut for the Boks in 2005
Zimbabwean born speed merchant Tonderai Chavhanga will make a welcome return to the Springbok jersey this weekend, against the Welsh in Bloemfontein.
Chavhanga, who last played for the Springboks in 2005, had an excellent Super 14 season this year, before unfortunately succumbing to injury once again, a torn hamstring against the Hurricanes in week 10.
If it were not for his unlucky string of injury setbacks in the past, theres no doubt the speedster, possibly the quickest in world rugby, would have achieved far more international caps.
His frequent injury problems were mainly quad and hamstring injuries, and it was later discovered that they stemmed from his one leg being slightly shorter than the other.
Hes been described as a prize race horse, as anyone whos seen him in full flight will testify to, and he should therefore be managed as such.
He made a miraculous start to his Springbok career back in 2005 against Uruguay in East London. The Boks were as good as the opposition was poor, but regardless, to score six tries on debut is no mean feat and its just another example of Chavhanga in action, something that RD visitors have been nagging for since seeing other snippets of him in action on here.
For the sake of world rugby, lets hope he stays injury free and goes on to show us more displays of his fine running ability in action. Its a sight to behold, and with Bryan Habana on the left wing and now Tonderai Chavhanga on the right, South Africa find themselves in a situation where they have absolute speed to burn out wide, and the fans will be demanding they see Habana and Chavhanga get their fair share of ball. And with Chavhanga up against Shane Williams this weekend, we're in for a great match up.
Note: Ignore Kobus Wiese's comment about seven tries in the interview afterwards. The big guy was obviously just a little excited and got carried away with the moment.

I'm very excited for the 2 matches. While I don't think Wales will win, I think they're going to give Springboks a bloody good go of it. Gatland and Edwards won't expect anything less than 110%. Chavhanga against Shane Williams will be immense to see, for the casual and fanatical fans alike. I think Mark Jones against Bryan Habana will make for an interesting watch too, Mark Jones having some serious pace. Would still have preferred to see Tom James instead of Mark Jones though.

i dont want to put a downer on such a fantastic achievement but surely if as a community we are trying to gain support for rugby globally subjecting countries to 135 point defeats is going to do anything but generate support, wouldnt a better idea to be to pitch them against against other nations just embracing the support, creating fairer games and therefore more likely to gain support in the country itself? just a pointer, and what gas

i'm really excited about these 2 tests as well, (SHAME I'M WORKING!!!)Williams vs Chavangha will be a great match-up. as we all know not even shane could keep up with this bloke over 100m, it'll be really interesting to see as williams acceleration is, as far as i know, second to none, but this man is frightening.I wasn't aware that Mark Jones was playing, didn't he injure his groin or something? he's got pace and is a very good defender, but i have a feeling if Bryan gets away from him it'll be game over.Injuries not withstanding i think Wales vs South Africa will be close matches, we've come a long way since the world cup, but i'm afraid to say i think SA will win, beating the boks in their own backyard might be too tough at this stage. as long we we play good rugby and run them close.

134-3 and the guy only got 6 tries?I'm sure he IS fast, but I don't think putting up clips from a match with SA's largest margin of victory is the best showcase of his talents.Hopefully, we'll see some great stuff from the guy this weekend - I'm looking pretty forward to seeing how he does....134-3...at what point does the crowd get bored and just leave?

Not to impress with this clip. Not saying he's not good. It's was just to easy to score against a weak team. Any of the super star wings could of got six trys against them. Lets see him against a decent team.

Usian Bolt, that is BS he runs the 100 meters in around 10.1 lets see you do that, he is one of my favorite wingers, and him and habana will probably prove too much for LIL Shane to handle.

There are some good tries in this clip, but it probably doesn't do him full credit as to his individual skill because he's mostly finishing off others' good work. Watch the Chief's clip- Chavanga's try from a standing start is one of the best individual tries i've seen for a while.

To the guys who just can't help but be critics, part of Rugbydump is about building up a fantastic archive of brilliant but also historic, important, rugby moments. Many people requested this footage, and many haven't seen it so therefore will hopefully appreciate it. Not the best ever tries, but I think as with a hatrick, a six try debut deserves to be shown and shared.The reason they played Uruguay was more for Uruguay's experience than the Boks. It was just a once off warmup for SA as I recall, but remember how Portugal loved playing the AB's in the World Cup? It's the same thing really, nomatter what the score is in the end.Elliot, if your team, whoever they are, were scoring try after try, running another team off their feat, would you get bored and just leave? I highly doubt it.

The first try was the best, or the one with Big Joe running down the wing. Some great handling there, nice team try. This guy has jetshoes as they say, and I think this article is more about a preview for the upcoming tests - a video supporting an article rather than an article supporting a video. Works for me. :)

Usain Bolt is the fastest man on the planet, he broke the 100m world record last week with 9.72s. The poster was joking around.

I don't see what's so impressive about this, Josh Lewsey scored 5 tries against Uruguay when England crushed them 111-13 too. It's like playing against a little school team. What's impressive is, both in the England and SA result, is that the team keeps feeding the ball out wide.They don't put their head down, and try to smash the opposition 15 out of the way.And to score 5 or 6 tries remains a big achievement, even if the opposition is amateur.And let's hope the IRB has some sense, and doesn't change the World Cup format.Although I'd feel humiliated, these smaller countries deserve the chance to play the Boks, All Blacks etc...

Haha Chazza is obviously another one of these "thinks he knows it all about 100m sprint times with rugby wingers" guys when in actual fact he knows nothing about sprinting at all.Chavhanga's extremely fast but I dunno if that means he's any good at rugby. Any top tier international winger should have been able to score those tries. It's a bit unfair to be including videos of such demoralisation of a rugby team and is not a great showcase for rugby as a global spectacle.

Guys, I think you're missing the point here, so let me try clear this up, even though I shouldn't really have to justify why we post certain clips. Anyway...This video has been requested NUMEROUS times in the last year or so, particularly since Chavhanga's name has become more well known. I get emails often asking to see his well known Six Try Debut. So in the same way that I posted the Eng vs Baa Baa's clip, because of many requests, I've posted this to satisfy those requests and try help out people who haven't seen the footage before.There's guys out there who haven't seen much of him at all and just wanted to see more. Simple as that really.

i wasnt in any way questioning the legitimacy of the clip, but of the game itself. fair enough in a world cup and good on the minnows for putting up such a good fight but is it really necessary for teams to be put to the sword in such devastating fashion when theyre trying to build up a fanbase? its my mainmotivation for not watching football as we english spend too much time having our heads shoved up our arses!

Joe, I may be wrong, but 2005 was a while back in terms of growth and development of the smaller nations in world rugby. Therefore, a tour like that, for them (Uruguay) was a pretty big thing, and believe me, a huge honour. I guarantee they relished the challenge and learnt a huge amount from the experience. Teams like Argentina have proved that by playing the best, there growth can be huge. Others will argue that Uruguay should stick to playing other lower grade teams, but why not afford them the honour of playing a top side every now and then?We saw Canada play NZ in NZ not too long ago, and that was highly enjoyable for everyone to watch and take part in it seems.But hey, it makes for interesting debate. I'm sure there's pros and cons from both sides. :)

i watched chavanga in the welsh match earlier, everytime he got the ball my heart raced i was so scared he would rip the us to pieces, im welsh i admit south africa are way to good, but i think we missed some of our players like dwayne peel, mike phillips and henson, not making excuses, we wouldve still lost im betting but wouldve given them a bit more of a run, loved shane williams' performance, for a little guy he is immense, best talent in the welsh squad in my opinion

Man, thrashed by the springboks yesterday, totally outmatched physically, and outplayed. Gatland used the term "startled rabbits" and i'm inclined to agree with him, made to many mistakes, and were punished for them, Butch played really well, and at least shane williams showed his class. our centers were totally outmatched. we missed Nugget, Mike Phillips, and Henson. not making excuses though the better team won by a country mile.

i think shane handled BOTH habana and chavanga fine on his own yesterday!!!!!he made habana look silly twiceand did anyone see him hit chavanga hard into touch?who got man of the match anyone?anyway good game better team wonwe're gonna get you nxt week though haha

That guy sucks.. just because he is fast he made 6 trys.. Chavhanga wont make it anywere.. the is just a looser.. non of his trys were impressive.. they just pass it to him in the 5-yard line and scored.. anyone could do that..
