Toulouse win the Top 14 final against Clermont

Toulouse win the Top 14 final against Clermont

Seven years after their last championship title Toulouse lifted their 17th "Bouclier de Brennus" on Saturday. Toulouse won with a 26-20 victory over ASM Clermont Auvergne at the Stade de France.

The losing Heineken Cup finalists scored two tries from hooker William Servat and fullback Maxime Mdard , and the ASM captain, Aurlien Rougerie replied with two for Clermont. Toulouse edged ahead on 60th minute and put their Heineken Cup defeat to Munster behind them.

A relived Head Coach Guy Novs was proud of his teams performance, This season was so difficult. After our defeat in the Heineken Cup final, to have the will to come back and to win today against the favourites is fantastic. Im proud of my players and my staff, they have really given everything today.

Clermont couldnt hide their misery after suffering their ninth loss in nine finals. The 2007 European Challenge Cup winners had led the Top 14 throughout the season only to fall at the final hurdle. Clermont captain Aurelien Rougerie tried to find something positive in defeat:

Im of course very disappointed. When you believe in something all season and then it disappears, its very difficult to accept. Every season we improve. We need to stay positive. What happened is not a fatality, one day I will win the Top 14 with Clermont.

The second Clermont try is scored by Zirakashvili, not Rougerie

very good match but the first try from clermont wasn't a try. rougerie was in front of brock james when he kicks the ball...

A great game filled with tension for 80 minutes (and more). Sad story for Clermont but they weren't the better team on the field this day ! The video summary does not show the huuuge work of Kelleher who imho made the difference (as far as a man can make a difference in a rugby game)

amusingly bad commentator. he says 'what can they do here?' or 'what can he do here?' 4 times at least in this 5 minute clip alone!

Kelleher was outstanding in my opinion, i think he would deserve the Man of the Match award.who won it by the way? i know it wasnt Kelleher.

Clermont really went for it at the end, throwing the kitchen sink at the opposition. They disregarded defence completely. They did this because they had nothing TOULOUSE.hahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's you again Anonymous, the one with the bad puns ! Superb game btw, the two best teams of the season, 22 internationals on the pitch, nice flowing rugby ... You have to feel sorry for the Clermontois though...Hard luck. But they were never gonna win: they got this loosing streak on, plus their coach is a NZer ! *coughchokecough* ha ha Nah seriously well done Toulouse, they were way better on the day, but they have all the experience of the big games. Kelleher probably player of the season...

Great game, the preview vid on here did wonders to hype it up for me!I'm glad I watched it with a different commentator, the one in this clip was terrible..

that was some gorgeous rugby. The complete antithesis of the stodge-fest the H-cup final turned out to be. Glad to see Toulouse come away with something from this season where they've been the most entertaining (and best IMO) team in europe.

nobody talk about Elissalde who played during 60mn with a break rib because a lot of toulouse back players were wounded (Valentin Courrent could play, but the coach decided to let him on the bench). It's a very good player, and Kelleher/Elissade are very full both.

Didn't see the game, but these highlights were great, apart from the woeful commentary of course, but what else would you expect from Eurosport.Medard's try was brilliant. Great work by a number of players in the build up, lovely offload from the wing and outrageous feet from Medard to step inside. French rugby at it's best. Well done Toulouse.

Felix why exactly should we be stripped of the title? Because we beat you? Towards the end of the match Toulouse picked and went the same as Munster did, Jean-Baptiste was asked about this after the game and he replied 'I complained about Munster doing this, it is not beautiful rugby it is realistic.' And boring rugby all year? I take it you didn't watch all of Munster's matches did you?Anyway congratulations to Toulouse but you can't help but feel sorry for Clermont.

Rougerie can come across as a bit of a fop sometimes (I guess it's the hair) but as a player the man is absolutely class. I have no idea why he gets so few games for France.Back 3 of Clerc, Rougerie and Heymans with Medard as cover would be phenominal.
