Semisi Naevo huge hit on Hugh McMeniman

Semisi Naevo huge hit on Hugh McMeniman

Australia A beat Fiji 50-13 this past weekend in the Pacific Nations Cup, outscoring their opponents by seven tries to two at Ballymore in sunny Brisbane.

It was a disappointing loss for the islanders, who after conceding an early try struggled to get back into the match, thus threw a few 50-50 passes that were quickly snapped up and converted into points by the talented Australian A team.

One of the highlights of the match for the Fijians, and spectators at the ground, was midway through the first half when huge flanker Semisi Naevo smashed the larger Hugh McMeniman with one of the biggest tackles to have been seen at Ballymore.

Man of the Match McMeniman, from Queensland, said afterwards, It was the biggest tackle I've ever been hit with."

I haven't been hit like that since I was a schoolboy, when I was 94kg.''

Ouch, though Hugh did take it like a champ and even patted Naevo on the back afterwoods. Does anyone know how much Hugn McMeniman weighs now???

Lovely technique, no malice, just one of those "sit the f*** down mate" tackles. Initial impact is good, add a drive into the floor and its goodnight Irene! Nice sportsman-ship too - good to see him get up and get on with the game.

How do you folks think Hugh would fare against the likes of Richie, Schalk, juan smith, So'oialo and the Caveman?Personally i dont think theres any flanker tougher than Schalk, dude just keeps diving in.He needs to brush up on his teq tho.Thoughts?

Greg - next time try using English, yes? ( I really hope you're being ironic with your teen-speak, otherwise it's just embarassing)Calm down and grow up.As for the video it's a great hit, great technique, good sportsmanship and I really love the Fijian Kit!

Quality hit. I like the way McMeniman praised it afterwards too. Down to earth good guy obviously. Cheers for this RD, as after seeing it in the requests section, I was looking forward to it being posted.

Solid. I've always noticed how big Hugh McMeniman looks on the field. He doesn't look too big in this clip (not sure if it's the new hairstyle or what), but he's genuinely a really big guy, so to be chopped down like this is really impressive.

He might be put on the bench for Australias 2nd test against France, because Nathan Sharpe is injured.
