Gordon Tallis' famous slingshot tackle on Brett Hodgson

Gordon Tallis' famous slingshot tackle on Brett Hodgson

Rough day for RD. Been really busy and had some personal issues to deal with, but here we go with another interesting and slightly comical clip to add to the archive.

The NRL State of Origin 2008 game 3 decider ended in Sydney on Wednesday night with the Queensland Maroons team taking the series in a thrilling 16-10 win over the NSW Blues.

Now while we are predominantly Rugby Union based, the occasional League clip definitely has its place on Rugbydump, and the latest State of Origin series reminded us of a famous tackle that occurred way back in 2002.

It will be very familiar to the League fans out there, but for the Union fans, itll be more of a talking point perhaps, but once you see this tackle, you wont forget it and will be praying it never happens to you.

So to pay tribute to the epic State of Origin series, six years ago almost to the day, this is the legendary moment when Brett Hodgson got scrambled off the field like a rag doll by Raging Bull Gordon Tallis.

Grabbed by the collar and flung like a sack of potatoes, Hodgson was well and truly put into touch, with the debates about its legality raging on for years to come.

Note: Look out for a very young Timana Tahu, one of the most recent League to Union converts, who is now playing for the Waratahs and Australia A .

Aah yeah I missed Tuqiri there. Well spotted. Skinny bugger. Interesting thing is that State of Origin teams are decided upon based on where you first played senior footy, so Tuqiri representing Queensland then and now the NSW Waratahs must have been quite talking point when he first moved across to Union.Anon ^ - try searching Rugbydump first. It's on here. :)

dunno if this makes sense, but if you consider the point of the force exerted on the ball-carrier it's near the neck region. same reason why people fell backward when high-tackled.it's fun to watch alright, but should've been given a free kick or something.Hey RD, do you have the clip for the Queensland's second try? heard it's quite spectacular to watch.

Greiffel i dont entirely agree with that, Origin is based on where you are born, though there are some expections, like Greg Inglis.this is great example of why i love rugby league, and there are plenty of other great hits and plays, i look forward to seeing them up on RDCheers

Hangover July 04, 2008 7:19 am

Sorry Chazza but state of origin teams are not decided by birth but where you first play senior footy. But yes Inglis eligibily is the most confusing.Anyway why is it whenever there is a big tackle there is always a handful that like to suggest the tackler should get penalised lol. I see absoutly nothing wrong with Talis's lasso tackle. If you think thats bad I have a real life story of me being shoulder charged onto a brick wall in a muck about game :P

Chazza, for a 13 year old kid you're pretty bloody cocky, even with your facts incorrect. 'Origin is based on where you are born'Corrected you that's all.

Similar tackles to this are sometimes penalised in the NRL and Super League... Depending on the referees interpretation of the rules.Shouldn't be penalised in an Origin game though. It is Origin after all, mayneee.

Those tackles are so annoying for people like me (small scrum half). I think it's illegal and not funny.

that tackle in union is illegal i'm not sure about league that known as a scrag tackle because your supposed to make a effort to bind youy arms round tackled player most minor scrag tackles are let off but one like that wouldn't be
