Wallabies sink All Blacks 34-19 in Sydney

Wallabies sink All Blacks 34-19 in Sydney

Australia stormed to a stunning 34-19 triumph over New Zealand in an exciting Tri-Nations encounter in Sydney.

Having led at half-time, the Wallabies were forced to come from behind following an early try from the All Blacks five minutes after the interval.

But as they have done throughout coach Robbie Deans' five-Test stint at the helm, Australia found their way to the finish line with tries from forwards Rocky Elsom and James Horwill to extend their unbeaten run to five matches and claim top spot in the standings.

Fly-half Matt Giteau was superb throughout for the hosts, as was stand-in skipper George Smith and veteran Lote Tuqiri.

For the All Blacks, Dan Carter was at his sublime best, while Mils Muliaina and Sitiveni Sivivatu looked dangerous, but it was not enough to avoid a second consecutive defeat.

Ryan Cross, Peter Hynes, Elsom and Horwill were the tryscorers for Australia, while Muliaina, Andrew Hore and Andrew Ellis touched down for the All Blacks.

Laulaki had a pretty shit game, too many handling errors for an international player. Great game from Australia though, good on them.

Did anyone notice how lauaki dropped almost every single ball he got? i mean, he even got the ball ripped easily out of his hands in the last second of the game... 1/10 for him, What is the AB gonna do without carter!?!? Great game for him, too bad everyone else cantDo the job like he can.

Much as it pains me to say it, the Wallabies were definitely the better side. Those Aussie attacks through some shocking All Blacks defence made me cringe. Aside from the obvious brilliance of Dan Carter, it's blatantly obvious that the post-World Cup exodus has seriously harmed the All Blacks. One thing I'm curious about is, what's happened to Rokocoko? Did he have a falling out with All Blacks management or something? I xan't recall him being in a single game for them in months, not even from the bench.

Of course we we're going to lose if we have none of our top side players left. Give it time guys, in two years I think we will be back on top. Just do think about who we have lost and how much these inexperienced players have done relatively well, but poor game by Lauki.Poor coaching by the All Blacks? Masoe over Lauki and Smith over Kahui maybe would of done it?

muliaina had a great game, ab's where just playing too lazy, the kicks behind them where australia's game... nzl where playing as if each as an individual someone else would deal with it.

Looks like the post-world cup will be difficult for the blacks. I've seen the and to me, I've seen a mentaly tired team.I'm french and have big respect to Graham Henry. But I think the NZ federation should have switchd the coach, not because of his skills, but to give something new to this team.

i don't think henry is to blame. he's a great coach and a good tactician. he's just lost too many senior players in the last few months. re cory and anonymous - Lauaki was pretty poor in the same way that hitler was pretty mean. Seriously, i would have been p*ssed off if someone played that badly in my team when i was 7. it was unfogivably terrible and i hope he never EVER EVER plays for the all blacks again. i've thought he was rubbish for a while now and that game just compounded it. carter showed the world another theory of mine - giteau and barnes are not great in defence. well actually he showed they were abysmal so he rather took my point and ran with it. donald will be a fine replacement for him when he's in france. jimmy cowan should get a medal for his effort. i hope he starts next game.

Its not the death of the ABs, look at the Under 21 ABs and how untouchable they are. Or the Super 14 where only one NZ team was in the bottom half. Depth is not going to be the problem. People should get over it.I don't know why some think carter is going to miss games for the ABs. He's going overseas during the super 14, he won't miss a game of internationals.Once the dropsy's are nullified and they get some better support play going they'll be sweet (Lauiki did destroy his career there you'd think). The welsh be confident, but it'll change when they actually play.

i thought carter might miss a game or two for the ABs next year but i've just looked at the fixtures. mike B is corect. he will be back in nz by the start of the tri-nations at least and probably in time for the pre-tournament friendlies as well .

The All Blacks were awful in defence - there were so many holes in the middle of the field in the last 22 - I've never seen NZ defence so desperate before. You have to wonder where Henry is going wrong. Most NH teams will want to play a disorganised Kiwi side. I actually fancy Scotland's chances this summer if they get the Lamont brothers back and have a good run in the other two tests. Tuquiri, Giteau and Carter were immense. Can't wait for the Murrayfield Tests!

Haha, the death of All Blacks rugby???Everyone thought that in 1998 when they lost 5 tests in one year - unheard of. But then they do what they always do - reinvent themselves and find a better generation of players to beat everyone again and resume normal service.NH teams reckon we have a chance? You'd hope so when the ABs have lost 13 players from last year and have McCaw and Rokocoko out injured.Pretty sad if thats what it takes for the us to win a game against them...

id say all blacks to win next week at eden park. bring back conrad smith please graham..you cant afford to F*** around with a team thats not even winning. with our captain back i think the boys will feel like things are back to normal. sione lauaki out of the squad for this week. daniel braid to sit on the all black bench. carter needs to find touch and the boys need to get a better kick chase. we can still win the comp.

Incredible game by Rocky Elsom & Berrick Barnes... The first one had 2 games (vs SA & NZ) at an incredible level, nullifying the opposite blindsides. And Berrick Barnes... wow! He could became the new Larkham, but he's a great 12 with Giteau 10 & Mortlock/Cross 13.And it's amazing how he defended against big Ma'a Nonu, never make him go away! Solid guy!One of the most beautiful match I've ever seen... surely in the last 4 years!

The depleted All Blacks lose a match to Australia and all of a sudden it's the death of the All Blacks, and Wales & Scotland can beat them?? lolCome on guys lets not get carried away with things. When an under-strength Wales lost to SA twice, nobody from Romania said 'Hey now we can beat Wales!!' No offence to the Welsh intended, it's just an example. The All Blacks will be back. :)Classic match. Had that real epic 2000 or 2001 encounter feel to it at times. That Elsom try was incredible, from such a long period of play, back and forth. Great match for the neutral.

I think the southern emisphere is going to rules rugby world for 3 years at least.Even a under-strenght South Africa or a injuried hit All Blacks could beat anyone. Australia IMO is a little bit behind, only because the don't have the great turnover that ABs & SA have!England, France & Wales of course are great team, but it's a long time they don't get a win away from home... I think next november series would show us something more!As Italian, I hope to see Italy at least at the same level of Ireland & Scotland: meaning sometimes (well, not so rarely) to beat England or France at home!

I'm with MadDog, I had Berrick Barnes as my Man of the Match. Solid hits in defence, kicking game was outstanding and provided great support to Giteau. Hon. Mentions to to Tuquiri Elsom and Cross, thought they had great games. Felt sorry for Muliaina and Carter, nothing more they could have done. As for Lauaki, I definitely felt sorry for him, won't see an All Black Jersey for a while, especially once McCaw comes back in.The game itself was a cracker. I'd happily sell Rugby to a newbie with the video of that game. Loving the ELVs

Best game of the 3N so far - the scoreline says it all...packed full of tries and great ruggers.Oz looking awesome at the moment under Deans - how does he do it...what the hell does he know that nobody else knows...???Thought the ABs were gonna come back there and win it as they dominated the first 15mins of the 2nd half and scored a good try. AB's are the best at having patience and going through the phases to get back infront...it looked as though once again this would happen until Henry brought on Laulaki who seemed to bring back the terrible littany of unforced handling errors the ABs made in the first half...Well done Ozzies...very clinical and fast game...Luke Burgess was definatley my man of the match.

From and Springbok supporter. YOU GO WALLABIES!!!!! If SA does not win the TN, I will give it to AU on a gold plate. NZ is the team that thinks they can rule the rugby world, give poor excuses when they lose even when the other team is playing against 18men and not 15. Go back to your outspoken media and ask them why they dont have anything to say now that the Boks and Wallabies won them? After they won SA the first time they had a lot to say.NZ coatches needs to learn the blind NZ team how to catch a rugby ball and to run the ball.As for Dan Carter is concern, I think he is the most over rated player in the world. Did he ever get 5 drop goals like Jannie De Beer 1999 WC in one match? No becuase he's not his boots worth...Let me say it again..... GO WALLABIES

Hey FelixGiteau and Barnes abysmal in defence? What the fuck are you on??? I didnt see many line break from any other Abs??? Nonu? what a fucking joke, running at barnes all night not once did i see him "run over" barnes like he was supposed to. Dan Carter is a class act and makes any defender look poor at times. And Laulaki is a top player, inconsistent but a top player, he just had a unusually bad night!

its not the death of NZ, its just now SA and Aus have caught up with them. before everyone used to compare every team to NZ, though dont know how long that will be the case. look at SA performances before the world cup, struggled to beat england in 06, seemed inconsistant all the time, now they are a different team. they seem to know their style now and are comfortable playing it, something which cant be said for alot of NH teams at the mo! Aus are the same, barnes and giteau partnership is unbelievably creative and even their best players like latham dont seem like they will be missed too much. forget super 14, that doesnt matter, the coaching and blend of players are different in the international set up, so who finishes where in super 14 doesnt determine the strongest countries. Aus and SA have had to bounce back from criticism, and they seem to have found themselves in this past year and created their own styles. NZ still seem haunted by the world cup, they dont seem to know how they want to play, and to be honest rely on dan carter so much that if he didnt play they would be guaranteed the tri nations wooden spoon.

yeah, Lauaki is a top level player and IMO too, he had a bad night.Unfortunately, playing with the ABs, you pay dear a bad night!Especially in the backrows!about the ELVs... ok, it was a great match! I like ELVs (even I think at a low level rugby, refs could have serious problems with these rules!!).But Italian tv speakers said (on ELVs & game quality): "you can make this guy playing soccer and you're gonna have a great match too"! forget the joke, but keep the spot: at this level, it's quite simple to make a great match: you've got these great players... But at other levels? Could we say the same things?

i agree this could be the end of all balck dominance i think it should be known that the all blacks dont have good stamina. thats why six games is good because there is no clear winner. Btw the all blacks have shown that playing more than 4 games against top class teams kills them thats why they didnt win the world cup in 2003 and 2007
