Jaque Fourie broken cheekbone on Springbok return
Fate had other ideas though, as within five minutes of making his entrance into the game, his attempted tackle on Argentinian right wing Piossek ended in disaster for the big center, as the collision meant his first significant involvement was also his last.
The clash of heads fractured Fourie's right cheekbone, which means he will require surgery this week. He will then be out of action for 6 weeks, ruling him out of the remainder of the Tri Nations .
A place in the squad has again opened up for young Francois Steyn , with the toll of the friendly between Argentina and South Africa also claiming the scalp of enforcer Bakkies Botha , who's knee injury means we won't see him in action again this tournament either.
The clip also shows a big hit from Butch James on Felipe Contepomi , and a superb try saver by Luke Watson after Piossek bounced off Fourie.

Fourie was coming very high into the tackle. It is a damn shame that the consequence was so high though.

ooh! iv done that, cept it was the part of the skull just below the cheekbone that I fractured.I still have nerve damage and suffer from occassional seizures because of it and a few other rugby related head injuries.I cant wait to get back toplayin, only a few weeks to go ... hopefully lol

Why so High Fourie???The guy struggles not to score try's , it would have been good to have him back,but i have faith in our depth.

Poor guy! Being so long from rugby is hard. He shouldn't have gone in so high though. Then he would've most likely been alright.

Didn't he play in the autumn test against wales? I thought he scored two tries. The highlights of the match are somewhere on rugbydump, so far as I can remember.

Man that must've had him seeing stars. Incredible tackle by Luke Watson too.Nah Angry Baggers, he didn't play. That's why Adrian Jacobs has been part of the set up, cos Fourie's been injured. Not sure who you're thinking of. Highlights are in the 'Highlights & Winning Tries' section ->

why arent the argentinians complaining about that try? if the english can complain about cueto in the WC final when his foot was basically in the front row seats, then they should feel hard done by as well. ha ha.

Went in a bit high maybe, but a total freak injury. Poor Fourie though, after so long out. Brilliant try saver by midge Watson though.
