Great Wellington try finished by Tane Tu'ipolotu

Great Wellington try finished by Tane Tu'ipolotu

Wellington produced a slick 48-12 win over Bay of Plenty in the Air Zealand Cup on Saturday afternoon. With the two sides unbeaten until round four, the match was surprisingly one sided and produced some great moments of running rugby.

Hosea Gear picked up a hatrick on the way to placing his side at the top of the table, but probably the most enjoyable try to watch was this one, finished by Newcastle Falcons new signing Tane Tu'ipulotu.

Started by the dynamic Corey Jane deep in their half, the neat chip and regather was shifted through the hands with all the skill and class of a team at the top of their game. The running lines and timing of the offloads were great to see, and the unselfish manner in which Gear offloaded to Tu'ipulotu is probably indicative of the feeling in the side at the moment.

An interesting thing to note is that the counter attack came after Bay of Plenty took a rushed quick lineout (under the new rules), which can at times amount to a lot of disorganisation on defence, particularly if you end up kicking the ball away.

Not sure about the hit on Wilkinson - he's pretty young still. But yes, he's going to Newcastle.

Corey Jane was the star of that try, nice little chip over and what an excellent quick timed pass.He might just be the Leon MacDonald replacement, as we're a little short on full backs at the moment.

i'm far from sold on corey jane. he's got skill and he does pull off nice little moments like that one with some regularity but he counter balances them with plenty of errors and missed tackles. he's is a good npc player, an average super 14 player and NOT an international.

I've seen better, wilkinson in his prime would have owned corey jane in a tackle.

I'm a Wellington Lions supporter but I just can't stand it whenever Cory Jane touches the ball anymore I use to like him but I don't know he's just not international material at the moment

Looking closely, I think one of the attacking chasers hit the ball with his leg after it went into touch - so the quick lineout should've been disallowed. I'm not sure the referee can even play advantage, but meh, things worked out alright :-p
