Mark Gasnier finishes a great try on Stade Francais debut
Twenty seven year old Gasnier will reportedly earn close to $1 million (US) a season in his Union adventure under new Australian coach Ewen McKenzie. Former Waratahs coach McKenzie being a strong reason for Gasnier joining the Parisian club.
"I admit the presence of Ewen at the head of the team was one of the determining factors in my decision to come and play in Paris. It's important for me to have an Australian coach"
He marked his debut with a handful of strong runs and did what he could playing at wing in his first big Union match at this level. His try concluded a wonderful move that saw Argentinian wizard Juan Martin Hernandez and Italian IRB Player of the Year nominee Sergio Parisse combine with a classy bit of passing before the ball was flung out to Lionel Beauxis.
Fly half Beauxis, who scored 16 points with his boot on the night, then delicately flicked the ball on to Gasnier who was on hand to finish a classic Stade Francais try.
Assistant coach Christophe Dominici was more than impressed with Gasnier on his first run out for the powerhouse French club.
He tried to unearth the gaps and he was really involved in some of the moves. That was impressive because it is not easy to move from league to union. This proves he has the talent and the quality.
A lovely try, and a great start to his Rugby Union career for Gasnier. We'll keep an eye on his progress throughout the season.

I was at the stadium this friday night and Gasnier for his first rugby union game had a great debut but some difficults to place in the defence like on the kicks.One match one try, .... good debut

GO THE GAZ he was good for my league team and he better be good for union or they wont let him back in Australia you english and french should be kissing us aussies on the feet for the gaz, trent barret, beaver menzies, sonny bill wiliams, jonathon thursten and maybe even Greg Inglisfar out man thats like all of the best players man

Gasnier is simply a talented athelete who will always achieve at any form of Rugby...The French have a real chance with Gaz...because as his surmame suggests, he is of French descent, just maybe he could be in a blu jersey?...but for me I loved him wearing the red and white of the saints...

Action is beautiful. We talked about new rules which locked the offensive actions in France. But i think now players and referees begin to assimilate it... and we can see tries more and more beautiful.To answer to ULF, i'm ok with him. Stade Franais jerseys are worst to worst each year. And it's my team.... i'm ashamed :(

I'm French, sorry for my englishAnother mercenarie in the top14...And moreover from league...I have no problem with foreign players or league, but this season, they're 45% of top14 players... Dangerous for our national team, dangerous for southern hemisphere's local championships (especially super14 & australian/NZ league) and dangerous for rugby ethic.Concerning superiority of league tu Union or Union on league, i think the two became too different to compare them honnestly (even with Union ELV's [those from SH, NH ELV's are stupid]), that's not the same show.Those who have already read me know what i'm thinking of Stade Franais. For the others, i gonna write it simple :Stade Franais goal = moneyBest way to bring money in Paris = attract gays &/or women attract gays + women = make his rugby players wear a pink &/or girly jersey (they find pink rucks/scrums exciting, "hmmm, all these guys touching them in pink !!!")More seriously,I have nothing against gays or women (especially pretty women) but rugby has his traditions that we should respect.Let's Bring foreign players quotas in NH championships (all of them), let's put pressure on the European Union !Sweet dreams...

To t.If i insulted you, i'm sorry.I have no problem with gays & women going to see a rugby game, everybody have the right to, that's not my point.To me, the problem is what the SF brings in rugby, that's not especially the jersey, that's the whole ; the calendar, the jersey, the shows before the match, the way their president behaves.Rugby is not, or wasn't, a "people" sport, if you see what i mean. It's a sport where only the game count. I don't like the way SF presents their players ; as sex-symbols or something else, to me that's not rugby, it's more soccer or something else.I am aware that only few (or none) people share my opinion.I am may too "old-fashioned" for what the rugby is becoming... :(

mpc-33 I can understand your point of view.But what you must also take into consideration is that if there is indeed a LOT of woman and some gay in their fan base, as a result.. they play in front of massive crowd, whether in the smal stadium of jean Bouin or in the big stade de France. And what is the problem with that ? anybody enjoying rugby games becomes a genuine rugby fan, no matter if he is a strait guy, a kid or a women.And at the end of the day, when you are a club president, what do u want.. you want big crowdsSo dont blame the President for finding a way to achieve it, because if you are not a rugby fan and get into it thanks to the jersey (and the good looking players in the calendar), good for u, good for the players, good for the club.. And If u are a rugby fan in the first place, then you dont even mind the jersey.Oh and by the way, to make it simple any club = money. Cause money = victories (among others, such has being able to pay your players, staff, sailsmen in the fan shops.. and not to forget facilities maintenance, investment in charities, and many, many more)Cheers

In reply to mpc-33, I never thought about the pink jersey reflecting the modern-day culture of Paris. I think it's a good thing for rugby clubs to reflect the culture of the town or city that they represent, altho this new jersey doesnt look quite as good as it has done in the past.-Dune

Just to say a thing on their shirt. It is unusual and if you look at their new third jersey (Andy Warhol style), it is something unique. And with their new style, they are not only a rugby club, they are unique around the world, a great trademark.In Paris I think they struggled for fans, because the great rugby tradition is in the south of the country. Now they have established the club.And if you look at their homepage with the Stade.TV - great video stuff as well. Dont see too much of this stuff on other Rugby clubs homepages.

i would like to know why players such as wycliff palu, rocky elsom and ryan cross struggle to play off the bench for nrl teams yet managed to make the wallabies? are league players better than union players??
