Matt Banahan bounces Donguy then smashes Medard
Bath came within seconds of pulling off a famous away victory over Toulouse on Sunday, but were denied at the end by a late David Skrela penalty kick. The match itself was a classic European encounter, memorable for more than a handful of stand out incidents.
Bath wing Matt Banahan impressed, and it's two pieces of action from him that we've chosen to show you today.
We've featured Banahan a few times here on RD, and as with previous clips, this time is no different in that we see the man-mountain putting in a storming charge, as well as a crunching hit.
Yves Donguy of Toulouse is the unfortunate player tasked with tackling Banahan on this occasion, and as you can see, he's no match for the 6ft7 giant from Jersey.
Later in the half fullback Maxime Medard then received a horrible floating pass that he looked to flick on. He messed up the flick, but more painfully, exposed his ribs and received a crunching hit from the 110kg wing.
We'll try get other incidents up from the match over the next few days.

I really wasn't impressed by Banahanhe doesn't deserve to play in such a good teamby the way, has someone some footage of Jauzion's tackle on him?

Ha, great stuff. Banahan is becoming one of the key rugbydump clip players. People seem to think he must be a waste of space and a bit of a gimic as a 6'7" wing but he certainly makes an impact and offloads like Vainikolo/Cohen/most wingers etc. could only dream of.

Well Donguy is not a small man,90 kg's of pure muscle,and yet he bounced of Banahan like he ran into a solid brick wall!

Donguy is the worst toulousian player, he has no hands, no power and can't tackle.Come back quickly Vincent Clerc and Clement Poitrenaud!!

@ seanon the firt action, he crashed donguy only because the toulouse player tried stupidly to tackle him at chest levelon the second one, the guy is without the ball, is nearly a late takle nothing to dream aboutfor me such player like vainikolo or banahan are not really efficient and useful for a team

Having a team mate that can bounce of the opposition like that boosts the others morale. BTW, am I the only one who thinks banahan looks like a skilled, fast and intelligent lock?

Well, I've never seen Banahan playing except this recent game against Toulouse. Heard from a friend that he was the best scorer of his championship last season. Is it true?His performance was quite banal then, exept for the huge tackle on Medard -who hadn't got the ball in hand when he was butchered, poor thing.As a french/Toulousian supporter, I really like Donguy. Great defender (exept here...) and good speed too. But of course, he hasn't got the class of Clerc who is better than him in every sector of the game.

I've seen Banahan on TV several times and he's generally impressed me. Unlike Vainkolo who always looks wooden and seems to have lost some pace, Banahan appears an intelligent footballer with great speed for a man his size. The first incident is a good example of his play. Yes, he can bounce off the tackle but he doesn't rest on that and flips a ball over the top to create a further attacking opportunity. The second incident is a big hit - perfectly legal - and it lifts the individual/team/crowd and probably (though I didn't see the game) put Medard off his game, at least for a little while. I don't know about international level but he's certainly worth his place in a top European club side so far from "useless"

Ahah donguy worst toulouse player ? lol, he is simply an excellent tackler, yes not a very dangerous winger with great speed, but he is excellent defenser, but not this time.And who have a vid of the Jauzion's great tackle on big banhanan?

Banahan must be at the back of Johnson's mind. Imagine how the likes of Shane Williams,Clerc etc would like him running at them!

This WAS a late tackle...@ Eric: Appearently, he was a lock at some point...I think when he arrived at Bath. Then they discovered about his pace.

As with the earlier clip of Rees' tackle, if somebody taps on (or attempts to catch) the ball like that, it's NOT late. Banahan was committed to it, and that's what it's based on.

The only massive wingers I really rate are Alesana Tuilagi and Lomu back in the day. Tuilagi really knows how to use his strenghth, much better than Vainikolo and this is the first time ive really seen Banahan use his size like that. Not a bad clip though, hes not an international player though. There are much better England wingers.

Banahan was the top try scorer in the premiership last season. the tackle was never late, give me a break, what was he suposed to do?

Good vid..RD now to the folks on here, i know Banahan is an anomily however would any of you here rather a wing of this mans size or someone like Shane Williams, Bryan Habana, JP Peitersen, Zee Ngwenya and the likes basically speedsters or an extra loose forward, keep in mind this is for the wing.The days of trying to find another Jonah are gone.Semperfi

"Ruckoff"'Shane Williams' running at Banahan...Shane would most probably make a fool of him with a simple bit of foot magic. Banahan running at Williams is a different story, we're probably talking broken corpse after it ;)

Banahan played well all last season and so far this season.. ok he had glimises of skill in this but in time he will play for england. He has only been playing pro rugby for 2 years now, in time he will get alot better.. And yeh he did play second row for jersey back in the day, and that is from an un biased JERSEY fan ahah

Banahan is a beast, he has power as well as pace and soft hands. He deserves to play at Bath and in the Saxons. He is destined for greatness :)

Banahan didn't do himself any harm in the test against the Pumas. Sure he hasn't quite got the all round game for Test yet, but he kept his discipline and put in some really good work.
