Midweek Madness - The human hurdle attempt
Older footage is always great in that it lets us see elements of the game as it was played way back when. This clip is by no means a great example of that, but we figured we'd show it anyway.
The year and the teams involved are unknown to us. In fact, we don't know much about it at all, except that it sounds like the guy taking the knock is Regan, and he's hit with the flying knee by Crampton, knocking him out cold.
The commentator is clearly incensed, but then we hear a rather amused sounding voiceover comment from Brian Moore.
Note the hair of the winger who comes to his aid. If anyone reading this still has that hairstyle, we want a photo of it, and a subsequent 'shavathon' for charity.
With a lot of talk around citings this week, namely in the Heineken Cup, it makes one wonder what the punishment for this 'tackle' was back then. Or, if the guy was even punished at all?
If anyone has any thoughts on that or knows any more about the clip, feel free to let us know.

The title is confusing, it appears like he's trying to avoid the player when he's clearly just kicking him in the face.

Looks like its Cardiff against someone, possibly Glamorgan Wanderers, but im not sure about the away team.Ah, a full Cardiff Arms Park! A beautiful site. Hasn't been the same since they stopped the decapitation attempts, attendances have dwindled...

what an idiot!! he even turned his back so he wouldnt have to get hurt in smashing the winger.... i mean imagine doing that today...wonder if he got any punishment? yellow without a doubt...red yes....and i suppose there wasnt citing committees back then ? :P

Ha, he is hitting the garryowen, perhaps that`s the club he was playing for. Anyone have any idea of an approximate date? Also, watch for the 10's right leg flip up in a quite effeminate manner as he runs on and off the screen.

anonymous @10:37 .. my interpretation of the "effeminate leg" effect is, number 13 runs towards the tackler to confront him and his team mate (number10) tries to stop him and is sort of pulled sideways, throwing his leg out. Gotta love these old b&w clips RD, more please.

There is no WAY that's Brian Moore. Pretty poor show by you rugby dump lads for thinking that, just because the guy speaking has a northern accent.

elliot .. is "more amusing" good enough when we're trying to get to the truth of one of the most puzzling phenomena in the video history of this great game .. yeah, probably.

The clip is part a Brian Moore DVD called Pitbull's Fistfull. That's why you hear his voice.

Back in the day this sort of stuff happened all the time, and players usually got away with it.
