Montauban crush Toulon - Delasau picks up hatrick

Montauban crush Toulon - Delasau picks up hatrick

A week after their surprise 30-25 victory away at Clermont, Montauban once again showed that theyre one of the more exciting teams in the Top 14 as they ran in six tries on their way to crushing the struggling Toulon 42-20 at Sapiac.

Star Fijian wing Vilimoni Delasau once again showed that hes one to watch as he himself crossed the tryline three times as his side romped to a 42-3 lead with twenty minutes left in the match.

Dominated up front and torn to pieces out wide, the big spending Toulon looked in disarray, but didnt manage to score three late consolation tries.

One of the more bizarre moments in the match came shortly before halftime as a snap Montauban dropgoal hit the post, then bounced down before hitting the crossbar and popping over for the three points. It perhaps summed up Toulons night.

With so much controversy surrounding coaching positions at the club, one wonders what kind of affect this is having on the players in the camp, who at the end of the day, just want to play rugby. Surely all the off field distractions dont help any, as shown by this result.

this touloun side proves that big names dont guarantee succes because rugby is a team sport!PS the clip would be better without the music, nevertheless thanks RD!

What struck me most about these highlights were the fantastically timed flat passes by the Montauban backs to put people into gaps. French rugby at its best i guess :)Jamie x

I'm French, sorry for my poor english.Great work from Montauban ! Despite their in-club problems, they show that a team can react and beat big money clubs, composed of mercenariesI wish Toulon will go back in ProD2 in the same train as Mont-de-Marsan (unfair for them but i don't see any other issue) ! One day, someone said that at the end of a chess game, the king & the soldier are going back in the same box.Or maybe we could find a spot Toulon on the Air New Zealand Cup(They don't deserve Super 14)?No, i love kiwis, nobody deserves such a scourge. :)Let's end on a politic word :Bring foreign players quotas in NH championships !!! Put pressure on the European Union Laws !!I precise that there is no xenophobia or racism in. Just a bit of national proud, and a will to defend southern hemispher championships & national teams.

In order to speak about the game himself (and avoid out-of-subjects insults), the video shows an awesone montauban team, i completly agree with Jamie x.Even if it remind me more SH championships than what we usually have in France and in NH in general.

Whos that number 3? he plays more like a loose forward! Great rugby from Montauban, intense high tempo stuff.

Montauban prop (n3) made a great job on these tries.

I watched the game on Eurosport 2, what an awesome first half by Montauban. They were all over Toulon with great attacking skills. Surely the best Top 14 match I've seen this season.

The Prop (No. 3) for Montauban is David Banquet by the way.

Banquet plays for Toulon, Montauban number 3 is Benjamin Sa or Adams.

Love the last try, the ref stops the defending SH from going round the scrum, almost hits him in the head too :D

Great match by Montauban but Toulon are very poor this year. They even manage to make players like Collins play like crap. Plus they provoke fights all the time. I also hope they go back to pro D2 next year. Money dosn't make a great team. In football, maybe but not in rugby

some of you guys just don't know what you're talking about...i'm from toulon and i can say that toulon is not the shity team you're talking about...toulon has a great nam indeed but we don't play with our name but with our hearts!i can't imagine people saying that we just think that we deserve something because of our name..."this touloun side proves that big names dont guarantee succes because rugby is a team sport!" just try to write it good and then come and talk about names... ;) man just be serious... our name talks for the past soldiers, and we are trying to make them live again... you can't blame us for our past... and say that we think that name is all that count... we are trying to play and stay in top 14 which is ^retty hard with a brand new team... who can blame us for that?money?man... this is unfair... how can we beat Toulouse and stade franais that have some of the best players in the world without some of the best players too that, you can't say i'm wrong, are expansive nowadays...just think about that guys and then tell me if we deserve the bad words you're saying about RCT!

Benoit, I think the reference to names was directed more at the big signings, such as Jerry Collins, Joe Van Niekerk and Sonny Bill Williams (is he STILL injured??) rather than the club, and suggestions that individuals don't make a team. We all know Toulon has a glorious history, please don't be insulted. And that drop goal is incredible! Couldn't do that if you tried!

oh i see... my bad then...mpc33's words made me feel bad then i kind of miss-read the words of minstrel bay...but still i think that we are trying to make toulon a great team, and it goes through starting to get great players...even if i agree that one huge name does not make a team a great one, for sure (but it's still a pleasure to see international players joining the team, as in every other team ^^)the fact is that unfortunatly i see a lot of bad feelings against toulon on that blog and on other ones... and that's sad... but i'm confident, we'll start winning again soon! i hope :) and i'll read some words like "awesome" "well done" "you guys are back in da game!" etc... ;)i also forgot to say one thing : montauban played amazingly! congrats!(what about adding the 3 tries of toulon the last 15 minutes of the game? ^^ cuz we played badly but finally we managed to score!)

As an England supporter I can only watch in awe at some of that silky passing and back-line play.... That Delasau guy can shift as well, although I thought he played for Clermont? Anyone know if he's in the Pacific Islands line-up to face England this weekend?

No need to be violent but what bothers me more about Toulon is their spirit, always getting into fights and all that...

In response to a few queries...prop is Benjamin Sa (listed as 140 kg on their website!) and Delesau is starting for the Pacific Islanders against England. Now my question...why is Nalaga not in the squad?!

qqry November 06, 2008 2:22 pm

I heard Nalaga was trying to get the french nationality was it a joke?

baubie November 06, 2008 2:23 pm

I heard about that too... I'm not sure where but i'm pretty sure i read it in l'Equipe or Midol

the rumours about Nalaga trying to get French cap is not true. Nalaga made himself available for the PNC earlier this year but had to pull out when Clermont mae the T14 Final...even if he wanted to play for France under IRB regulation 8 he can't, he has already represented Fiji in 7s (3-4 tournaments) and the Fiji A-side.
