LinkDump

LinkDump

Striving to bring you a more enjoyable and informative rugby experience here on Rugbydump, we thought it would be handy to experiment with a new feature that will be a great way for us to share interesting rugby titbits we come across.

LinkDump will be posted sporadically throughout the week, and will feature hand-picked links to topical and informative rugby articles, funnies, and sometimes videos.

While this format may not work for everyone, we have a lot to share and hope that some will enjoy the random, interesting links that you may not have come across otherwise.

Click the link, view the pages, but don't forget to come back here and comment and discuss. Please also leave feedback via email or comments as to whether you enjoy this feature or not. We'll work on it as time goes by, improving, tweaking, and ultimately, perfecting.

Michael Lipman requiring brain surgery?
Bath and England flanker Michael Lipman has had an astonishing five concussions in six months, leading to serious concerns that he may need surgery to prevent further damage.

Super 14 Team of the Week
Week two of the Super 14 has just passed, with a few stand out names and performances from Cape Town to Canberra. PlanetRugby have taken a look at who they see as the top 15 players of the past weekend.

Tana Umaga makes his comeback
Toulon coach and former All Black Tana Umaga made his comeback this weekend as Toulon took on Stade Francais. Umaga, now 35, played alongside Sonny Bill Williams. Short video of the moment of his return is linked.

Rugby Hulks
Since professionalism kicked into gear after the 1995 World Cup, we've seen a tremendous change in the way the modern day rugby player looks physically. Bigger, faster, stronger. Or are they?

Pic of the Day
Here's a nice looking pic we threw together of Welsh flyer Leigh Halfpenny evading English workhorse Joe Worsley in their recent meeting in the Six Nations. We'll share more interesting pics as we come across them.

As a player currently sitting behind my computor with an AC Dislocation in my right shoulder, its nice to know that my injury is to be expected! Ive also done my Medial Collateral twice, and im only 17. Perhaps i should take up tiddlywinks... Good idea though RD, keep up the good work!

can I just point out for the non-uk readers that the daily mail which supplied the link for the lipman injury is prone to making things more dramatic than they need to be, espescially where immigrants and gordon brown are concerned. if you read the article nowhere is brain surgery ever mentioned by anyone quoted. the mail also said a few days ago that facebook could cause cancer, again noone quoted mentioned any link to cancerjust to clear up that lipmans might not be hugely serious, anyone possibly requiring brain surgery wouldnt be near a rugby field let alone taking a fitness test before a game

if you look at the islanders, most of their backline is already over 100kgs.. taione(tonga) is about 120kgs, rabeni(fiji) 106kgs, tuilagi(samoa) all of them over 100kgs. and isn't census johnston(samoa) at 135 kgs already.. imagine how big the islanders will get??SCARY!!!

AnonYup a lot of them are. Sapolu-fuimaono 104kgs, alesana tuilagi 114kgs, anitele'a tuilagi 105 kgs, dominic feaunati 112 kgs, seilala mapusua a measly 102 kgs.. just kidding. Anyways you get the point.. That's just the Samoan backline. Tongans and Fijians are historically bigger than Samoans. But we do have guys like david lemi and uale mai to balance things out

Looking at rugby today I can see the old school fat front row disappearing in place of a front row more like 3 blindsides.

just on the heavyweights thing there are many close to home, even 'pretty boys' Byrne and Henson are 100kg,and Roberts a few more, although Census J 135 is huge for a forward!!

My theory on islander rugby teams:Three positions:1. Scrumhalf2. Lock3. Everyone else is interchangeableLomu was a #8 who played wing. His brother was a prop.

Pat,IMHO, he looks more like Fabien Pelous...A softer, more feminine in the face, Fabien Pelous

lol at cheyanqui.. very true!! it's the same here in the islands.. i'm a center/wing that plays flanker as well.. i LOVE to hit.. but there are some islanders here who aren't too keen on playing defence.. so we leave those pussies in the backline..(no offence to backs)on my team.. the loose fowards and the enitre backline, except half back and full back, are equal in size and pace.. but i think our open side is probably the fastest and fittest on our team

It's true that alot of islanders can playa variety of positions and have the skills to do so. They are a naturally big and athletic people so most of them are big lads and can play in the forwards or backs. But Lomu could never play no 8, his defence was woeful for a big man.

RD is already a linkdump, but bouts of this gives it the necessary structure. Its a layout thing re blogs: you end up scrolling down too much, rather than looking accross.Essentially, this new departure means that u don't have 2 keep going down to find the ting ur looking for.Which is a long winded way of saying:i totally endorse this product or service also, i don't think that i'd actually have looked at 'a picture' (or pair of pictures) otherwise- overall, new feature is a good call guys, if one prone to even more selectivity in choosing the best stuff from a particualar perspective (not a criticism - its an unavoidable power reality)
