Leicester go top with a great win over Sale

Leicester go top with a great win over Sale

Earlier in the week we posted a clip of Julian White flooring Andrew Sheridan in the thrilling Guinness Premiership match between the Leicester Tigers and Sale. Weve now got highlights of that match for you, as the two sides battled for the full 80 mins in a high intensity clash at Welford Road.

The Tigers showed great resilience as they held out for more than an hour with only 14 men, securing the 37-31 win with a show of mental toughness, and three second half tries.

"We just had to keep the belief that we could still play," acting head coach Richard Cockerill said. "Sometimes it can affect you psychologically when you go a man down."

He added: "We have a good scrum and we want to use it as a weapon and Julian's physicality is a key.

"You have to take off a back-row forward which leaves you short in other areas. But the players have to take the credit because they played off their wits a lot of the time.

"They did a lot of things that we don't practise because of the scenario we were in. I thought, considering what went on during the game, the boys were fantastic.

"It was that sort of day and credit lies with the players because the spirit and camaraderie they showed today was second to none.

"It was about the players, the club and the supporters and the boys fronted up."

Julian White has since received a two week ban for his punch on England colleague Sheridan.

This was a great game of rugby with some superb tries, namely by Alesana Tuilagi, Mark Cueto, and Scott Hamilton. Enjoy.

Great match. Tries, hard running, lots of skill, strong packs, the works...I'm a fan of Super 14 and don't want to get back on the boring slagging match between NH/SH, but with some notable exceptions, the GP has been more entertaining this year with as equally good players and skills on display. Partly due to it not being a vintage year (yet) in the Super 14 but mainly due to the improvement in quality of the GP teams.Great to have both, thanks RD for covering them both.

anybody else think the commentator describing Tuilangi as a "beast" and a "monster" was a bit controversial?!PS leave Will Greenwood alone, he's a complete legend and one of the best pundits on TV - generally very insightful and knowledgeable. Thanks Rugbydump!

to anonymous above: no it wasnt controversial. people that big shouldnt be that quick or athletic. he is pretty monstrous.also cant wait for heinekan cup weekend! the resurrection of christ can take a back seat this year.and to the people above there is such a thing as deceptively quick, i didnt watch till the very end so i dont know who he was talking about but you could say that tom croft is deceptively quick - you dont think someone of that size would be quicker than most wingers but he is. check out the video of him scoring the try against the nz maoris. him gassing them on the wing is the definition of deceptively quick.

Awesome try by Tuilagi. Great game. High quality tries and superb intensity. Looked like Super 14 ;)Cueto a starter for the Lions? Looking pretty decent imo. I'm sure he'll be determined to get it right this time and keep his foot in the field of play against the Boks...

Flood is a player that very much suits Tigers new attacking approach. Has a good shout of the Lions 10 jersey now.Players such as Flood, Vesty, Hipkiss and Murphy are really shining. I dont have a clue why Tigers have not played as such with a backline of that calibre until now.
