The Barbarians defeat England at Twickenham
Baa Baas hooker Schalk Brits was named Man of the Match as he showed the kind of form that made him a fan favourite at Newlands for years. He will join Saracens next season, but for now, cant wait to face Australia this weekend.
"It's a great experience playing for the Barbarians and to be able to face England and Australia in the space of a week is fantastic.
"It's still amazing that a group of players can come together for just a few weeks and then play such great rugby but when I look around the quality players in this squad, it doesn't surprise me."
Martin Corry and Josh Lewsey had memorable matches themselves, as it was both of their last games before hanging up their boots.
"Everything about it has been great - apart from last 20 minutes," Corry joked.
"It's been very special, the national anthem, the game... Looking back, everything about the day will put a smile on my face.
"The kids will remember this one forever as well as me. Having the family and my kids here today, it's been very special.
"It's very rare that you can choose the way you go and the manner you do it."
It wasnt a great day for England, despite coming back nicely after falling behind early. They will need to regroup and improve as they face Argentina at Old Trafford this Saturday.

For all the resources english rugby has at its disposal, they should be the best team in the world by miles.
Might still happen tho.

As far as I recall, there was alot of first caps or first starts dished out that day. We went to pieces at times with them. Imagine what it could have been with more inexperience. Johnno had the balance about right. But not good enough as a team against that quality.
Hope Hipkiss gets the 13 shirt though.

on the previous try did the ball hit the ref, j marshall complained about something, like he always does.
great game though from baa baa's, england like to score those easy chip kick trys but you don't get 'em that easy with a well organised back line, like they tried so many times in 6N and just wasted run-able ball. do they lack confidence ??

he deserves another shot big time

Hardly ive seen miles better first of all it was against a hooker he seemed to wait and wait it took him ages to get there and when he finally did he went high what an idiot he should of taking his legs.
great proformance form all the baa baa's doug howlet didnt seem to be involed much well judgeing by this video. Brits stole the show and deserved that try what a run i dont think any hooker in the world could do that!! But my sweet god Rocky Elsom is the best back row in the world any team would be blessed to have him!!what a player fearless out standing!!!!

"the tackle by armitage was average."
-------
Really? You 'anonymi' have some pretty high expectations considering most tackles on the line still result in a try being scored.
Plus, more often than not, the defender (unfortunately) gives up the chase when he thinks the try is imminent.
I think it was a great effort by the fullback to get there. Yeah, he didn't have to do a lot since the big hooker's mass carried him on his back like a turtle into touch, but at least Armitage was able to pull him down just in time.
Anyways, class game - I'll be damned if Elsom isn't one of the greatest athletes in rugby; he's a monster.

England need to watch and learn
These baabaa's will may crush the all blacks
Anonymous June 03, 2009 9:02 am

if hed have taken his legs brits momentum would have carried him over. by going high he was able to turn him over not allowing him to ground the ball.

These baabaa's will may crush the all blacks
1. "will" or "may", be brave and choose.
2. why, because they beat a mediocre English side? I don't understand your logic.

Ok, so Goode got the chips over bu there is nothing else to the fat knacker, once teams have worked that out he's totally useless. England in desperate need of a a good 9/10 combo!
MadMax June 03, 2009 12:04 pm

Ellis/Care/Hodgeson/Simpson/Youngs
Flood/Cippers/Geraghty
All fine players. Simpson and Youngs need another season or two. And Flood, Cippers and Geraghty are injured, needs his pin out and just back from injury respectively.

Note: I don't mean the Blue Oyster Cult "more cowbell" producer, but rather the Iron Maiden lead singer.

Brits is indeed quality, and would love to see him get a shot in the Boks jumper.
However, it seems B. du Plessis has it locked down. Then again, I like BdP plays like a meathead. Is Brits that much worse than Bismarck on the set pieces?
Smit stays as hooker coverage in your 22-man squad because John Smit is John Smit.
I guess the problem in the end is some think that Brits is more of an impact player than an 80-minute guy like BdP is... Watching this video might dispel that idea.
cheyanqui June 04, 2009 1:24 pm

Should read:
"Then again, I THINK BdP plays like a meathead."
