Joe Van Niekerk scores for Toulon from neat Jonny Wilkinson chip
Jonny Wilkinson scored 17 points once again, for the second week in succession, as he steered his side to the win with some nice bits of play. He was subbed with 20 minutes left in the match, but showed no signs of injury.
He also made a vital try saving tackle attempt when knocking the ball out of the Racing Metro players hand inches from the tryline.
Toulon captain Joe Van Niekerk, who missed last weeks match due to injury, scored his sides second try just before half time after Wilkinson put through a perfectly weighted chip.
Hard running left wing Christian Loamanu gathered the kick then fed Van Niekerk on the inside for a well worked try that left the Racing Metro defence exposed.
Toulon are now in fourth place (edit) on the table behind Toulouse, Clermont, Castres.

Wrong. Toulon is fourth behind Toulouse, Clermont (9 pts) and Castres (8 pts).
Anyway great try by Toulon, if Wilko keeps that level, I can't wait for seeing him against big teams of our championship.
PS: Showing Top 14 is great but it seems that you will limitate it to Wilko/Chabal/Steyn/Bastareaud, please don't do this...

I don't think there's any danger of that happening. That's just what's been big right now.

How precious are some of the people who comment on this sight?
It's rugby they don't have to have gay soccer love after they score.

Sorry, I can't create highlight footage because my computer's too old and have no RAM enough. :-(

but I would say that defense organization and positioning were very poor.
racing was playing 3 against 4 on left Toulon attacking side.
racing scrum half tries to tackle Wilkinson, but he is to far away, and to smart with that kick.
Moreover van Niekerk was very quick running his support line from the scrum, so actually Toulon was 5 against 3 by numbers when the winger fed his flanker.
Racing flanker never tries to follow Van Niekerk, and the try is there.

he threw the stupid pass that could have settled the play down - i like him but that was dumb
so really - he was redeeming himself

True, that's exactly what Wilkinson said himself.
But it's just his 2nd championship game after 8 months without playing. He need to find out his marks. Actually, he is fit but still at 60-70% of his skills.
He'll probably be at 100% when England shall call him for training camps, october tour or 6 Nations :')

He was obviously an incredible kicker.
In terms of his ditribution it was very good, but not the best in rugby.
And his running game is almost non-existant.
His defending was excellent.
His main attribute beyond kicking was his steadying influence and reliability. He almost always chose the right option and never cracked under pressure.
I hope he comes back as good as he was.
