Plays of the Year 2009
It's been a year of fun filled action so far, more for some than others are we see a bizarre moment in the stands prematch at a Super 14 game in Hamilton. Yes, the tournament has had it's highlights, most of which were on the cheerleaders at each and every game.
From dancing advice to sour grapes, Springbok coach Peter De Villiers commanded plenty of attention in 2009. He never failed to infuriate and confuse with his random statements to the media.
De Villiers did however, have the last laugh as his team beat the British & Irish Lions, won the Tri Nations, and retained the number one position on the IRB rankings. Perhaps there is some method to the madness after all.
The biggest hits of the year come from the Lions tour in South Africa, the Air New Zealand Cup, and the Super 14. The Hit of the Year is awarded to a centre who smashed a far bigger prop.
The Best Try of the Year is given to a worthy Frenchman who scored an absolute beauty of an individual effort against the All Blacks a few months back.
As a rugby fan, it's been an incredible year so far with an incredible amount to talk about, both on and off the field. We'll remember 2009 for many different things. It's been a great year for the fans, with so much going on both on and off the field.
The good news is, it's not over yet.
Plays of the Month for August 2009
Plays of the Month for July 2009
Plays of the Month for June 2009

Now you're talking...a little rugby, a little sideline hardcore porn action...where can I get tickets to THAT match?

The other Phil might disagree with cheerleaders being in the game but I certainly don't.
And I'm sure the dancers wouldn't be too happy being called strippers or being associated with porn. They're professionals that provide a few minutes of entertainment...it's not like they're dancing for the full 80 minutes (some might wish for that though lol)
Gotta love our Aussie programs :)

And Phil, while you might consider cheerleaders impure, I would probably just consider you a prude.
If wanting to see atrtactive woman dance around in skimpy outfits is impure, than just call me Johny Impure.

Heymas' last side step for the try was outrageous, and this vid is sweet.

"Hurrr but it had cheerleaders"
So what? i come here for rugby.
FrankyH September 27, 2009 9:03 am

Funny clip RD, thanks. I thought it was great.
As for the prudes, today's sunday - go to confession or something. You'll get over it.

Strippers take their clothes off for money. These dancers do it for fun, and are generally some kind of dancers away from cheerleading anyway (NOT strippers). I think you're taking it a bit seriously mate. We're not living in the 1920's.. or saudi arabia.

So what? Welcome to modern, western society. If you want to be religious about it, fine. Don't expect everyone else to care.
And this clip is for laughs, if you don't like it, don't watch it.

You see more skin on a Axe advert.
Thankfully we live in a liberal democracy and this ridiculous prudish mollycoddling is ignored by the majority of people.
Keep up the good work RD, i for one dont just visit the site to watch rugby but to observe the culture and humour presented in the videos aswell.

Surprised Phil didn't whinge about the Dwarf getting tackled in Otago as well.
Wake up to yourself, it's all a bit of a laugh and not just meant to be about the rugby.

Those hits were awesome. The boks had a great season.
Mr De Villiers your shipment of acid is on it's way.

opfazonk say, "what's wrong about wearing a bikini?", nothing of course at a beach, but in a stadium on show for pleasure, thats wrong. i would to see people, who say it is alright and find it humorous explain to their sons and daughter what they find so funny.
i feel this type of entertainment has no place in rugby, it's becoming more like american football and rugby league. more importance is given to this than emphasising the value of sport. However i do understand this type of entertainment needs to be used to boost profits for the clubs and to increase crowd numbers, but not to the extent where it becomes the main entertainment. i understand rugbydump can't do anything about this, but i would like to see rugby entertaiment be more entertaining for fans of all ages rather than as adult humour. rugby should return to it's core values and not follow the paths of rugby league or american football.
