Magners League best tries - Round 3
The pick of the action came from the Scarlets and Munster clash at Parc y Scarlets in Wales. The home side looked to have caused the upset, but a late try by Denis Hurley tied the game up. Flyhalf Jeremy Manning completed the conversion for the 22-20 win.
Hurley scored two tries on the night, but the best of the match, and probably the weekend, went to Scarlets prop Deacon Manu. Manu kept up in support after a break out by Sean Lamont up the left wing. Jonathan Davies and flanker Simon Easterby were on hand when needed, with Manu taking the last pass to finish a great try.
Edinburgh beat Ulster 16-13 at Ravenhill to go top of the standings as they fought back from 10-0 down. Stephen Ferris and Clinton Schifcofske scored for the home side, but Tim Visser scored a try for Edinburgh before Chris Paterson kicked two penalties, and Phil Godman slotted a drop goal.
Cardiff Blues surprisingly lost to Connacht at the Sportsground, going down 18-16 despite having some internationals back in their side. Ben Blair scored early on to give them a lead, but two tries to Connacht wing Fionn Carr set the home side up for a great win.

...Munster was looking less than impressive. But they won, so I guess that's all that counts.

RD - Maybe combine the Magners league and Guinnes Prem into one highlights video where only genuinely good tries make the cut, or alternatively only put out a 'best of' video every couple of weeks?
Thanks for the video anyway, pretty much enjoy watching tries of every callibre.

'...Munster was looking less than impressive. But they won, so I guess that's all that counts.'
They were still missing their Lions and other injuries, so pretty good win. 8 starters and Warrick.
At least today's game against the Dragons produced some great tries, Howlett's anyway. Munster's 4 tries all coming from Auckland, Howlett and Nick Williams hat trick.

But either way, good on ya for committing yourself to coming off as a complete ass.

I think maybe you're the one who needs to get over something. Could it be the Lions losing (again)? Or maybe the repeated failed attempts by Ireland/Wales/insert bad rugby team here to beat South Africa or win the World Cup,.
But that's alright, tell you what, you keep watching your second rate Magners League, and the SH teams will just continue to win everything meaningful.
I'm glad we worked that out.

Can't you people just enjoy watching rugby instead of turning everything into a p*ssing contests.
RD never said it was THE best tries they said it was SOME of the best tries.
I'd rather see this stuff then not see this stuff, as for most people it's the only way of keeping in touch with whats going on elsewhere - and to be fair it's no less boring then many of the other games of rugby I've watched in the 2008/2009 season.
just enjoy it, and if you don't move onto something else till something comes up that you do enjoy.

FYI - we're working on a new system that will mean each user has their own login, profile page and identity, etc. Once that's up and running, there will be no more idiocy tolerated.
Until then, we'll just continue to remove childish, argumentative comments from the few who have nothing better to do.

Anyway the reason for the empty stadiums in Wales I understand is that rugby supporters prefer to support their traditional clubs as opposed to the new Regions/Franchises which were created a few years ago. Munster,Leinster and Ulster have been around for years and obviously recent successes have introduced new fans to the game.
A lot of front line players were missing as has been previously stated but the Magners League has produced some great matches over the years but not every match is going to a nail biter with free flowing rugby, not with our weather conditions anyway.

This collective Bok amnesia about New Zealand being the best team every year bar this is quiet worrying.
I know its great when your team is No.1, (unfortunately, the closest Ireland have come is No.2, when they ironically beat SA in Nov '06). But god, 2 3N next to NZs 6??, 2 S14s to NZ's 7?? (pretty sure its more, I'm really only counting since around 2000). You beat the Lions yes, barely, 2-1, while NZ utterly blew them away and nearly destroyed the Lions as a concept, touring or otherwise. Its called perspective.
Regarding the attendances, yes the Stadia are smaller, but the crowds are near full to sold out for all Irish provincial home games. Now with the internationals being selected after their break, more games will be full houses. Can't speak on behalf of Scots or Welsh though.
Dave September 28, 2009 10:07 pm

Sad but true.
I'm not sure why you're comparing SA to NZ either.. Everyone knows how NZ have dominated world rugby for the last fifteen years.. despite not winning when it counts. Yes, you did fail to mention WC wins.. SA 2 NZ 1 (in 1987!)
But no need to argue. Hopefully SA will give Ireland a good go at the end of the year, with whatever team we send across. I just hope the gloating is in perspective then too.
Richie September 29, 2009 8:34 pm

Personally I hope they send a full team as I don't want to beat South Africa's 'B' team I want us to have a crack at the real thing.
I was merely pointing out that Bill was incorrect when he said we had 'repeated failed attempts' at beating the Boks.
Yes, the team a few years ago was largely experimental but that's not our fault, we can only play what's in front of us. I hope I didn't come across as gloating because I wasn't, I was merely addressing Bill's seemingly condescending attitude towards Ireland and correcting him.
Dave September 29, 2009 10:13 pm

I totally agree that it would be great to have an even contest, for both sides involved.
Time will tell I guess. Obviously it's been a crazy season for SA in particular, with the Lions tour and Tri nations, and with Super 14 starting up again in Feb (I think).. I'd say Bok players will either be rested then, or on the end of year tour. Lose lose I guess. But that's the modern game for you.
Bealy September 30, 2009 3:24 pm

Most welsh supporters follow the Semi pro sides of yester year as its in the heritage of wales. With no successful franchises like the irish nobody thinks its worth making the trip and paying double the price for watching a often mediocre game. Theres no crowds therefore no atmosphere therefore the players dont respond.
Neath for the premiership this year!!
