All Blacks beat Wallabies comfortably in Tokyo
Its been a clean sweep for them, winning all four Tests of this series, taking their tally to seven in a row against their neighbours Australia.
For the losing side, there was some consolation in that they scored their first try against NZ since their first meeting in the Tri Nations in July.
Australia led 16-13 at half time following the Peter Hynes try in the corner. New Zealand grabbed the lead again though when Sitiveni Sivivatu dived over in the corner after some great hands by Captain Richie McCaw.
Sivivatu was yellow carded for a reckless tackle on Adam Ashley-Cooper in the air, and has since been suspended for a week.
Conrad Smith scored another try as he breezed through some questionable tackling, before Dan Carter extended the lead with some quality goal kicking.
"We needed to be able to put seven and eight phases together and we would have been looking pretty good," said Wallabies captain Rocky Elsom. "For whatever reason we couldn't do that and it cost us as we really needed tries there."
"We obviously weren't good enough," he said.
The match ended with a bit of a scrap, for which Tony Woodcock has also been suspended for a week, as he elbowed George Smith.
Both he and Sivivatu will miss the Test against Wales at the Millennium Stadium next weekend, which is the start of New Zealands tour. They will take on Wales, Italy, England, France, and the Barbarians.
Australia travel to Britain and Ireland as they have their first Grand Slam attempt in 25 years. They start with a midweek match against Gloucester on Tuesday though.

I thought Zac Guildford was supposed to start ahead of Rokocoko and Sivivatu, what happened to that?
Good match but I'm hoping the Ozzies would perform better in the future.
FrankyH November 01, 2009 6:03 pm

How good were Mccaw's hands for that try. pure class.

Also thank god woodcock is out for the wales game, we actually have a chance at scrumtime now ;)
I expect wales vs new zealand to be a cracker.

A pity for Aussies and Nzers not have those types of games at home though isn't it?

Secondly, Robbie deans is an awesome coach.. Think all blacks have dropped a clanger not having him.
Thirdly, as it stands Sivivatu, Woodcock are out. Dan Carter has a dead leg and they are doing tests later in the week.
And if anyone is interested it looks like the All Blacks are staying at the hilton in Cardiff! get the autograph books ready.. Can't wait for the wales game next week!!

I always loved seeing Sheridan turn the screw on the Aussies.

The atmosphere in this match wasn't great, but still enjoyable to an extent.

Good game. Agree with FrankyH.
McCaws hands.. MAGIC!
Sivivatu.. brain explosion.
& the All Black lineout!
looks like this coach reshuffle has paid off.
vs Wales.. going to be the match of the tour!

Ozzie try - on these replays I wasn't convinced he grounded it, or was in control when he did at least.
Second NZ try - anyone else think there was a hint of a forward pass to Smith?
Also do Oz and NZ play each other too often these days? Does it make it less special? I'd be interested to know what the Oz and NZ guys on this site think (generally speaking I think there's too much rugby in total, in particualr too many tours, and especially too many lame-ass NH tours of the SH)
MikeyMike November 01, 2009 10:15 pm

The game next week will be interesting, I have a feeling this tour will end up like the last couple (large winning margins to NZ).
NZ is building to btw. Loads of players are out and a few new guy are being added. The team next year will be mean.

Huh!! the 3rd November 01, 2009 10:27 pm

Agree about the Currie Cup final, and also that NZ/ Aus play each other too many times a year.
Sivivatu's hit was ridiculous. I think Hynes was safer in the air. Lets assume Hynes had his feet on the ground, the force Sivivatu hit him, it could've been a yellow anyway. No technique, just aggression. Thats my main problem with some of the hits in modern rugby. The second the garryowen went up he had one thought in his head. Deserved the week.
I'd like to see Wales beat NZ, but it will probably be same old, same old, as they put it up to them for 60min then NZ's superior fitness sees them home. Think they'll (NZ, obviously) go AIs unbeaten.
Hope Aus beat Eng, as England are ruining the game as we know it, with Johnson picking his old Leiscester buddies (Deacon, Goode, WTF) and that mistake Bortwick, ahead of decent players. How Kennedy isn't there, when he's the their best available lock is beyond me. Pick and drive, pick and drive backwards, concede pen, yellow card, English fans are being screwed.

sup i'm a kiwi..
I think that the amount of internationals per year is good now, but yeah nz vs aus.. in the last few years especially.. there seems to be a dead rubber match every time.
Aussie need to step it up man, not trying to sound cocky or anything.. but seriously, does Australia even care about the Bledislode these days?
But about internationals overall
me and most of the boys when watching this game, felt like we hadn't seen an All Blacks game in ages.
Probably because we watch ANZ cup every week
I think this match should have been between All Blacks and perhaps Argentina..

And how good was that Adam Ashley-Cooper run in the final minutes? Why couldn't Australia play like that for the entire game?

The try awarded to Hines was not a try. What are they saying, that he got the ball down on the line? He didn't knock the ball on before that?
O'Connor goes for Smith's dummy to Nonu when there were a thousand of his teammates there? Come on. Weak.

At 50 min Gits is called for a knock on after placing the ball back. The only person touching the ball is Bitchie McCaw while lying on the ground.
Happened all game, he needs for the refs to start reffing him and everybody else with the same rules.
But still not the thing that lost Aus the game, we just straight up dropped the ball too much.....
Anonymous November 02, 2009 1:20 pm

i can't believe you are naive enough to still be complaining about richie when you should be putting your energy into making sure o'connor spend the next two years improving instead of playing for the aussies. he's not good enough or big enough. he needs some time in the sevens squad... that's what the abs would do with him.

Man this is getting so boring, as someone has already said if he played for your team you'd call him a god. This sort of childish whingeing is pathetic.

I think that a majority of the people at the game were neutral, I was out there with a large crowd from Hong Kong and recognized many more Hong Kongers whilst there, also there were hundreds of Irish people in Tokyo :S, and of course loads of Japanese too.
Also, from where I sat, and watching a few of these highlights, there were a shitload of unspotted forward passes, e.g. Cory Jane's assist offload to Conrad Smith, just use the 22 as a marker to see when Jane offloads and where Smith collects, followed by the worlds gayest tackle attempt from James O'Connor.
I think the biggest letdown for the whole event was the fact that the stadium ran out of beer at half time, could u imagine that!!? Everybody had to sit through one of the worst matches ever whilst completely sober.

Have a look at 5.20 - from side on Corey Jane's pass is certainly backwards, no even sideways let alone forward. Smith picked it up from behind him.

only opposing teams call him a cheat.
Guess they can't get use to how supreme he is at the breakdown.
get over it world
