French Barbarians vs Europe XV
Founded in 1979 by Jean-Claude Skrela after playing for the original Barbarians, the French Barbarians have a culture much like that of its British counterparts. They also wear their club socks, and running rugby is the order of the day.
A crowd of over ten thousand turned out in the Belgian capital to watch two sides brimming with talent. The French side contained both current and former Test players with the likes of Dimitri Yachvilli, Jrme Thion, Sbastien Bruno, Jerome Porical, and Julien Peyrelongue wearing the famous blue hoops.
League convert Karmichael Hunt also turned out for the French side.
The Europe XV had players drawn from Portugal, Georgia, Poland, Spain, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, and England. The team included Romanias Sorin Socol, Gonalo Uva of Portugal, former England players Phil Christophers and Magnus Lund, and Spains Cesar Sempere.
The match was played in the correct spirit of the occasion, with both sides running the ball from all parts of the pitch. Castres wing Marc Andreu was particularly devastating, as was Jerome Porical who showed his class from the back.
The French Barbarians raced out into the lead, but the European side came back strongly and the match ended 39-26 to the Frenchmen, but as they say, rugby was the winner on a day that not only provided both entertainment for the locals, but was a great promotion for the game across Europe.
"The match represented a wonderful opportunity to show the very high level that players from these so called emerging nations play at. It also highlighted the depth of talent within the European Nations Cup," said FIRA-AER Chairman Jean-Claude Baqu.
"It was a great and historic day."

the shute shield is a good example of this. it puts this match (which was okay i guess) to shame with running rugby
ive stated it before and ill state it again the only people who come close to us aussies with running rugby are the fijians. yet for some reason we are getting shunned to the side by RD. do you have something personal against oz rugby dump????! we all know you do
Canadian Content December 29, 2009 1:01 am

And the French are much more similar to the Fijians than the Ozzies.
Nice post RD don't worry about all the haters.
Anyone know where I could download this game?

YOU obviously don't know your rugby. Ever heard of anything called "french flair"? Strange, it's been around as a rugby term for over 30 years. As for you bashing the french for no other reason than the recent few faul pays. Look up this article on scrum: http://www.scrum.com/scrum/rugby/story/107512.html
It's a review of the decennium in stats. You will find a nice conclusion about the french and foul play.
Your little list is a joke.
Next time you try to make an argument, make shure you got all the facts and be constructive.
Nobody likes a little troll.

Always tough up front, sometimes ill disciplined, and often brilliant out wide, but just as often completely clueless. Totally unpredictable, always capable of winning or losing.
Historically a running side though Cameron Maxted, along with teams like Australia, NZ, Fiji and Wales.

Yes, Australia, historically, is a great running side with some of the greatest backline players of all time.
You could say the same thing about the kiwis, the Welsh, the island countries AND FRANCE.
The French haven't always had the skills set of some of their anitpodean cousins, but have made up for that with something very French, elan.
They love to run the ball, or they did for many years, and have been at times spectacularly successful (e.g. when they beat us, AUSTRALIA, at the 1987 world cup for example, or NZ in 1999).
They are also known for being completely unpredictable, world beaters one week, rubbish the next.
To be fair, they are not as adventurous as they used to be, but are more successful too, so that might just say something about the game.
The point of all that, is that it's common knowledge for someone who knows rugby.
You should know that, or you're ignorant. Which isn't a crime unless it's willful.
number7 December 30, 2009 1:20 pm

okay seriously you guys need to back down right now because ill lay the hammer on all of you

Cameron Maxted December 30, 2009 9:52 pm

more proof that the wallabies are the best running side in history is that david campesy has scored the most tries ever
number7 no one is even talking to you so back down before a drop the hammer and beat you down
Brick Shithouse December 30, 2009 11:32 pm

And just by the by, Daisuke Ohata has the most test tries ever, Campese is second.
number7 December 31, 2009 12:47 am

and nz are far better at running it look at their atmn i nternationals they rippede everyoe to pieces out wide ...and thats coming from an irishman
troy December 31, 2009 4:14 am

Cameron Maxted December 31, 2009 4:19 am

and no ohata's tries dont count!!! he plays against even weaker asian nations and he scored 8 tries against taipai or something so no they dont count. campo has scored most of his tries against top 10 nations okay??!
and yeah id expect you to be a dirty irishman number7 you seem to think that the all blacks are godlike seeing as your irish lads have never beaten them. well guess what? most teams have beaten them easily and they arent anything so sit down and shut up mate

They only get videos by people sending them in - They dont have a film crew in Australia. If no one films the games then they cant post them .
Cameron Maxted December 31, 2009 11:44 pm

and yeah some of us may have convict ancestory but not all and the ones that do have are proud of it so keep on calling us that mate cause i for one dont care. and there was a time when the all blacks might have been on par with us with running rugby (around 4 years ago) but we have upped the ammo with james o'connor and genia looking to run at any opportunity.
yeah so anyway how about you focus on beating the all blacks for the first time in 100 years of trying mate. all teams in the world have already beaten them easily except you lot!!!
BenV January 01, 2010 12:18 am

number7 can you say think mate?!? or are you like all other irishmen who can only say tink? you know when rocky elsom came back from his money cow in ireland he was actually mocking the way you idiots speak up there haha i was like yeah rock tell me more mate.
I lived in Aust for many years and I like the country and the people (but unfortunately I did meet a couple like you) but for an Australian to mock the way others speak English is your biggest joke yet. Enough comments have pointed it out already but you really are an idiot aren't you, and most Australians I know would laugh in your face.

Anonymous January 02, 2010 11:17 am

Australia didn't have a great year so there is nothing to be proud of at the moment.
Campese scored tries when rugby players were still skinny slow and very unproffessional.
The borat's country you are reffering to might be russia, do the smart guy in front of an angry russian and you'll see who's receving the hammer.
I've been living in Oz for some time myself, and like everywhere there are stupid (and ignorant)people. No need to bring disgrace on an awesome country!
I which everyone a good year and may France run the ball into your asses for 6N!
ps: ireland, the time for revenge has come!

seriously all of you need to lay of australia and the wallabies yes they had a bad year but that does not excuse you from lambasting them with these personal attacks. you have zero right to do this and it is racially provoked seriously lay off or deal with me.

Cameron's Mum January 07, 2010 3:52 pm

I've grounded him and told him he's to come on here and apologise to you all.
I asked Cameron's father if what Cam was saying about us Aussies being famous for our flair was correct and he said it's not true, and his cellmate said the same.
Anyway, I hope Cameron won't be such a pain in future. Please have some sympathy for him, he's only 12 and his dad ha just been sent to prison for beating up a man he caught me having sex with. It's a tough time for him.
