Remy Martin cited for stamp on Jean-Baptiste Elissalde
This is just a short clip to show the incident that has resulted in a citing for Bayonne's Rmy Martin in the Top 14.
Bayonne are near the bottom of the table and looking at a possible relegation from the Top 14, so this blow won't do their cause any good whatsoever.
Martin, captain of the side, was cited by the LNR and will appear before a disciplinary commitee after he stamped on Jean-Baptiste Elissalde of Toulouse.
Martin will surely claim that it wasn't deliberate, but Elissalde was injured in the incident, and as you can see in this clip, wasn't too pleased with his former French colleague.
Martin's displinary hearing will only take place on January 20th, which oddly enough means that he will be free to play until then.
Elissalde had scans on Monday which found that there was actually no cartilage damage around his ribs after they were stamped on.

It it was accidental, Martin would have stopped to see what he had stamped on, or he would have tripped over Elissalde. Even if it LOOKS accidental, you honestly can't say you have the same walking feeling when you put your foot on the ground or on someone's ribs.

I'm impressed with Ellisalde's reaction at the end. A lot of people would have shook his hand either to just be nice or to say that what's done on a rugby pitch is fine, let's be friends after the match. But Ellisalde took a principled stand, and I must salute him for it.

If you are lying on the floor in the direct path of the breakdown you have an increased likely hood of being stepped on. Ellisade made a good tackle on a big man and paid the price. If Martin had looked at him picked his foot up and stomped as if he we're stomping an ant then there would be a case for citation. Instead martin simply chased the breakdown as a good seven should. If martin didn't do what he did he would not have been doing his utmost and therefore cheating his team. The real citing should be against Ellisade for his little snub, on the basis of un-sportsman like conduct. If found guilty this is punishment for playing the game as hard as one can. If this moment in a game is citable then where does the game end up? touch?

Didn't think there was much in this at first look - but a couple more views suggests that Martin had plenty of room to plant his right foot on the ground and step over Elissalde but chose instead to stretch a little and stand on him. There's an element of doubt for sure so who knows how it'll go?

Get up and play the game. If you're on the ground, in the path of a breakdown, you're going to get stepped on. It happens to everyone, myself included. Definitely wasn't intentional. And the no. 7 was gracious at the end, offering a hand shake of apology...

But whether or not it was accidental, refusing to shake the guy's hand was a bullshit move. I did that once after a bloke blindside punched me, and my dad gave me the mother of all bollockings.
The only time I think it's acceptable to do that is if the guy has bitten or gouged you.

He had two or three strides before he planted his foot on Elissalde - it would have been easy for him to jump over him because there was space in front AND behind the scrum half too. Like 'Mr Umanga' said, the prop managed to do it.

In any case, I don't think that doing that kind of thing can save his team in their fight to stay up [in the league]."
The interviewer then asks:
You didn't want to shake his hand at the end?
To which Elissalde replies:

That to me is a nonsense cite...a man going full tilt onto play steps on an opponent, his head is up, his foot motion is a step and not a stamp, on foot makes contact the other doesn't, its a natural step he takes as opposed to going out of his way to 'get' opposing 9 - play on nothing to see here and nothing proven on that citation.

Re the French 6N scrum halves.
I thought Morgan Parra was injured also. How about Tillis(?) Borde, or Mignoni? Personally, I think Dupuy isn't even in the top 5 best French Scrum Halves and his suspension is a positive for France's 6Ns hopes. I'd much prefer Ireland to face him rather than Parra, Elissalde, Mignoni or Yachvilli.

I haven't read them lately but I was tought that a player on the ground counts as the ground so u can step on him as you would the ground which seems to be the case...

I also think JBE won't play for France any more cos Lievremont doesn't want him in the squad, even though he admits he is a very good player. JBE just doesn't fit his "plans", understand what you can.
imo, he's the best 9 France has and arguably the best 10 at the moment. I just find it's a pity to ignore such a gifted player who can organise the team, kick and weigh on a game so much.
I'd like to see him share the scrum half position with Parra, and why not Michalak or Yach when they're in good shape.
And as Lievremont likes experimenting players, I'd like to see him try Baby as 10: good kick, good vision, good pace, takes his responsibilities, likes to attack the line... well, he'd perfectly fit the "plan".
And he knows most of the players regularly selected in the national team, he's a former Toulousain.

In fact does no one think that Mignoni, Yachvili, Tillous-Borde, Durand and JBE are a lot better than Parra? I think Parra's slow, weak, an average at best goal-kicker, gets caught in the ruck far too often, and sometimes stupidly starts fights, so he'll probably be suspended sooner or later. Why does Lievrement ignore all the other hugely talented players?

in all honesty yeh its petty to not shake hands, but to all those saying 'i shook hands with someone who raped me on the pitch' and 'my dad bollocked me' etc...or words to those effects, it is up to the individual, some stand in the tunnel and clap the opposition through, others stand and shake their hands as they go through, some people rush around the pitch shaking hands with the ref and oppo players, others wander off....if Elissalde didnt want to shake hands with someone because he viewed it as a blatant foul then its up to him and he has the right to do it....at least a fist fight on the pitch you have semi equal chances, Elissalde was flat on his back....

Please do not forget that this clip is in slow motion and it looks like he has loads of time to miss him. I would like to see this in real time before rendering a final judgment.
