Tim Visser scores quickfire hat trick as Edinburgh beat Ospreys
Visser came off the bench to replace an injured Simon Webster after 15 minutes, but had to wait till the second half to cross for his treble. He contributed towards the opening try of the match though, helping Ben Cairns cross on 34 minutes.
It remained 7-0 at halftime before the home side scored a sensational four tries in eight minutes with the big Dutch winger crossing for three of them as Edinburgh showed their flair from deep.
His colleague on the other wing, Mark Robertson scored a fantastic try himself as Edinburgh ran from deep, freeing up the pacey winger as he stepped a couple of Ospreys players then galloped away for a top quality try.
Ospreys managed to get themselves together in the last minute, scoring three tries through Nikki Walker, Jerry Collins, and Sonny Parker, but it was too little, too late as the home side did enough to take a memorable win.
Vissers try scoring feat of three tries now make him the first ever Edinburgh player to score three tries in the Magners League, as well as it being the quickest hat trick ever recorded in the tournaments history.
"Its my first hat-trick in first-team rugby. To come off the bench and score three tries is beautiful for me," Visser said afterwards.

Although it sucks to see Murrayfield almost empty... I hope this good performances from Edinburgh will fire up crowds a little...

Yeah that wasn't obstruction at all for the first Ospreys try.
And I kind of wish that someone would pop their shoulder when scoring to make people stop doing those stupid dives.

Those dives are funny to watch, but can you imagine how embarrassing it would be to injure yourself doing it?

Its the national stadium, gets used for tons of other things (concerts,internationals, rugby league etc) edinburgh only use it because the more suitable sized stadiums in the city are either owned by football teams who would never allow rugby being played on their turf, or are in such bad condition (meadowbank) that you wouldnt want to play there.
In saying that though, that was an extremely low crowd for edinburgh due to the game being on a sunday and edinburghs recent lack of form. Hopefully that crowd number will just be a blip.

Phil, there was a guy named Jearus Nicholas who used to play for Griquas in the Currie Cup. He became famous for HUGE dives (he was a tiny, quick wing), and scored heaps of tries at his best.
He eventually ended up injuring his shoulder doing that, and I don't think his career was ever the same again.
There was some story too that went along the lines of he proposed to his wife with the song 'I believe I can fly' being played in the background.

The more i watch him the more i can't wait to see Mark Robertson in a dark blue jersey! With the tragic loss to rugby in general of Thom Evans, this guy may not be as quick (although i actually think he "looks" faster, while Thom's pace was often deceptive), but he's still a bullet compared to Lamont/Danielli, and what a sidestep!
What this clip doesn't show (as good as it is, so thanks RD btw) is just how much Edinburgh dominated Ospreys and how many chances went a begging in the first half through poor handling. The second half was just night and day, although it was a pity to let them back into it at all (dreadful defence for the Jerry Collins try when i look at it again!)
Still, all in all a great confidence boost to Edinburgh and Scottish rugby, hopefully showing a few new younger guys coming through in Robertson, Kelly etc, as well as how well Ben Cairns is playing atm. How Andy Robinson has left him out for the England match i don't know!

the ospreys with a team like that should really be playing better.
edinburgh are a fine team on the other hand, and deserve much better attendances.

.....i take it you missed the scotland wales match then...
Phil, i think in the 2003 RWC final, an aussie hurt his guts when diving for a try....cant remember who it was....and it wasnt really a big dive, more like a normal sorta dive.....
A guy in our club got tackled over the line and was holding the ball in front of him, and managed to land on it (whilst maintaining a good grip)....he ended up popping both shoulders.....not a pretty sight.....

there's no one in these stadiums!!!! its nearly empty. I know theres a financial crisis but the unions (or whoever is in charge of attendance) needs to do something about these empty seats. They should realize what games (almost all of them apparently) won't sell out and give those tickets at a discount/free to schools, soldiers, local clubs, charities and churches.

Gotta admire that visser guy, he looks promising to say the least.
We (the ospreys) need to get rid of some dead rubber players though, like vaughton & tandy.

Nice to watch. Visser is 6'4" 109 kgs what a beast.
And yeah when you dive keep the ball to the side, landing on it hurts like a bitch lol. I'm waiting for the day when someone actually loses the ball midair when going for the dive.

That's pretty much the reason that this match was a cakewalk for Edinburgh, the majority of the Ospreys welsh internationals weren't in the team.
There is an argument that the union should do something to fill the stadium. But you need to bear in mind that its a national stadium and it's the middle of the 6 nations with both teams missing players due to international call up. Ok, it's never full but with the capacity it is you can understad why it looks empty.

the tries by visser were good but i was even more impressed by that massive hit het put in the last minute of play and his subsequent steal of the ball. very impressive

If it ain't Dutch it ain't Much! Pitty he doesn't wanna play for the Dutch. He could bring a lot of his knowledge to the Dutch team and bring them to a higher level. If only we, the Dutch, were better at Rugby!
