LV Cup final thriller between Saints and Gloucester
Tries were scored by prop Soane Tonga'uiha, centre James Downey, and scrum-half Lee Dickson, with flyhalf Stephen Myler kicking everything asked of him, notching up 15 points on his own.
For Gloucester Nicky Robinson kicked 14 himself, including conversions of Akapusi Qeras try, and the penalty try that was awarded by referee Alan Lewis.
"Cup finals are all about winning. You would take 3-0 in a final, but it is more encouraging when you can go out and play like that. There were two teams who wanted to play rugby, and I thought it was a good advert for the game," said Northampton coach Jim Mallinder.
"The Premiership has had some stick recently but there were two teams out there who wanted to play rugby. This victory shows how far we have progressed. We are going to enjoy ourselves over the next 48 hours and then it's back to business," he added.
The win books their place in the Heineken Cup for next season, as well as sets them up for the possibility of a rare treble, as theyre in this years quarter final, as well as currently sitting two points behind Guinness Premiership leaders Leicester.

Neil Best is one as an irish supporter I dont understand why he keeps being overlooked for a bench roll, he'd be a lot more effective than shane jennings off the bench and what've seen of him as been in great form this season.

Also, Chris White does nicely allowing advantage in the run up to a couple the tries which allows for continuity.
With regards to the timing and location - it's only the LV Cup. It still guarantees Heineken Cup rugby for the next season so it's pretty important for the winner but...

Great choice of clips! Finally clips without easy kicks, and with long passages of play.
Lots of games are prob like this in GP, we just don't see those bits unless we have access/time to commit.
BTW: Munster need to pay attention to N'hampton

Jesus, why do you always have to compare the two styles of rugby? What's it got to do with super 14?
This was a fantastic game, and the reason why is that it actually had huge defence. Running one end to the other isn't impressive if you don't have to actually breakdown a defence and create your opportunities, so when a try is scored teams have had to work for it.
There has been plenty of that in both the Top14, HC and GP this season, teams like Bath, Northampton Liecester, Tolouse, Perpignan all play open rugby when they have broken a team down.
And ultimately not everyone wants to watch the boring basketball style dross that is peddled as running rugby by the Super 14 provinces.
So comment on the game or don't comment on the game but lets not turn this into another NH vs SH crapathon.
The only thing i would say about this game is it's a real shame the two teams were missing so many players, tindall, Foden etc.. what a stage that would have provided for them to showcase their talents.
And why oh why was Lawes not in the match day squad for Paris? what a joke.
Either way next week will be interesting seeing how Saints go in Munster in the HC off the back of that, and Gloucester go against Wasps in the Challenge -both are set to be massive games.

Dude, you're clueless. Try watching a few matches and you'll see that it's not like that at all.
The funny thing is that our assumptions about NH are based from watching it and being bored sh*tless, whereas yours are based on getting on the bandwagon of slagging off everything that you lot can't produce.
Having said that, I myself do watch all rugby, and this game looked like a cracker. Now if only more were like it.
And I dont think Beatrootz's comment was meant in a derogatory way at all. It was just that his eyes were opened to something he doesn't normally watch, which is great.
So don't moan about the NH/SH, then bring it up and have a go yourself mate.
goodNumber10 March 24, 2010 11:15 am

How's that for making an assumption?
And I didn't bring it up, if beatrootz wasn't making comparisons then why bring it up, just comment on the game?
I watch probably 99% of the rugby on TV, watching the Sharks game, on Saturday morning here, was embarrasing, constant moaning about the NH by the commentators and avoidance of a ruck by players at all costs. i lost count of the amount of guys who went into contact and threw the ball back along the ground rather then stay on their feet and try and drive through the contact - it was like watching a rugby league game without the tackles.
The fact of it is not all super 14 rugby is amazing, I never said it was all basketball read my post agian, but the majority of it is just as boring dross as a forward dominated snoozathon, and on the flip not all NH rugby is boring forward orientated cr*p, the majority of it is big defence and phases to breakdown defences.
Differnt styles of rugby are played by different teams, just enjoy your rugby and stop constantly turning this website into S14 vs the world.
Because the majority of us are very very bored with this whole discussion now.
Benson March 24, 2010 11:39 am

Anyway, we'll agree to disagree. My argument is that the Super 14 (not just catching a random dud game every now and then) is far more enjoyable to watch than the GP/Magners League, BUT I can still watch those and enjoy them without feeling the need to slag them off to make myself feel better. I wish the same applied to everyone though.
But fine, discussion over. It is boring as f*ck, yet it still amuses me for some reason.
Anyhow, that try scored by #12 for Saints was immense. Brilliant build up to it and a few minutes of back and forth rugby.
goodNumber12 March 24, 2010 11:52 am

agree about the saints rty tey've played some great attacking rugby over the last two seasons.

Just don't read the comments here if they bother you - it's the content that is posted that is quality. ie: videos, articles etc. :)
