Racing Metro too strong for Brive in Paris
South African Francois Steyn landed two first half penalties and a left-footed dropgoal as Racing looked to be fully in control of the match. It turned though with 10 minutes left in the half though as Steyn was yellow carded for an apparent spear tackle.
Brive took advantage with Retief Uys scoring a try before half time, but it was Steyns boot, as well as that of Andrew Mehrtens, that sent them into the break 12-8 up.
Grand Slam winner Sebastien Chabal and Fijian winger Sireli Bobo both scored second half tries as the score went to 25-8. Brive came back strong though, with a try from England international Jamie Noon and a later penalty from Alexis Palisson.
Racing picked up only their second win in seven matches this year, much to the delight of Chabal, who came into the match on a high.
"I came into the match in good form and we were determined not to repeat our performance from our last match and decided to play a lot more with the ball today," said Chabal.
"This we did and you can see the results. The match against Biarritz in a fortnight could be pivotal to who makes the last place but with our team spirit and enthusiasm I believe it will be us," he added.

Definately agree with the anonymous above, that did not look like a spear to me.
Funny how no cards are shown to worse tackles than that....

The French refs are way too quick to go for the cards, and don't seem to actually know the rules around tackling.
