Super 14 Pick of the Week - Round 14
The Bulls, who fielded a below par side in order to rest some players, got hammered by the Stormers in Cape Town who were playing for a home semi final spot.
The Stormers actually set a few records this season, as they are the side that conceded the lowest amount of points for a season, as well as the least number of tries, 17. Nobody managed a four-try bonus point against them either, and the Blues were the only team to cross three times, despite the Stormers winning that game.
They will host the Waratahs tomorrow, a side whove actually won and lost the same amount of games as the Stormers, as well as scored 20 more points than them. Theyve conceded more though, with the Stormers having a better points difference. By all means theyre an evenly matched side, so it should be a great game.
The Bulls, sitting pretty on the top of the table, will host the Crusaders in Soweto, a field foreign to them, but theyll no doubt have the fans from Pretoria out in full force. The Crusaders have a disadvantage when it comes to travel, as they left South Africa not too long ago, but have now had to make the long trip back for the game.
Were set for a great afternoon of rugby with two intense semi finals. For now though, heres the best tries from the final round-robin stage of the tournament. Theyre all quality tries as usual, but make sure you dont miss the Quade Cooper flick that everyones been talking about. Enjoy.
The Pick of the Week archive is now updated so you can easily access and watch the best tries from each week of the 2010 Super 14. Click the banner on the sidebar, or follow this link now .

Just watched the whole video again. Some quality tries there. Choosing a top ten for the season will be a nightmare

I thought the Maitland one for the Crusaders was actually really good. So were a lot of the others though. Cheers RD. Big day tomorrow!

Great stuff here, probably the best highlights of only one day ever !
Real shame that Reds aren't in the semis, i'd loved to see Cooper playing at this level of the competition :)
Wallabies staff are gonna have a real tough choice here. In my opinion they just can't not to give him jersey n10 but will Giteau accept to play as a fulltime 12 ?
Well, if France, NZ and SA keep performing that way, and now this australian team improving again and again, I think the world cup next year could just become legendary :D

The funny thing is Australia will probably bench Cooper and O'Conner may not even get in the squad, they've got so much depth in their backline this year.
It
It'll probly be Barnes at five eight and Gitaeu at inside centrer, with Kurtley Beal or Ashley=Cooper at fullback.

gotta love quade cooper and james oconnor, cos you need balls to run back from ur ingoal or throw that 50-50 'back door' pass,
because it could indeed go terribly bad (check the friday funnies with dave haylet-petty or somthng...)
anyway, thanks RD for all the efforts you've all put into all these S14 highlights throughout the season, hoping more is come
and imo, wallabies should go for the following set-up (at least give it a go for the june tests)
genia-cooper(works brill for reds)
gitts- 13?? maybe digby and put
mitchell on the wing
digby ioane-peter hynes
o'connor
ps: that warathas shirt was rather unusual but original (is max guazzini planning on a move down under... xD )

My reason for putting Bowden at 12.
Nonnu is injured, the competition therefore is Benson Stanley, Jason Shoemark and Ryan Crotty, or moving someone who hasn't been playing second-five at Super 14 like Israel Dagg or Rudi Wulf there. I pick Bowden over the others because of his distribution skills and playmaking abilities.
I know this leaves the centres lacking attacking flair, because Conrad Smith is more of a defensive centre, I feel the fire power from the back three, which I think New Zealand has the best back three and depth to the back three in the world right now, would more than make up for this.

I know people would disagree by saying New Zealand having the best back three in the world right now. But look at the statistics,
Tries:
Joe Rokocoko : 9
Rene Ranger : 7
David Smith : 7
Zac Guildford : 6
Sean Maitland : 6
Rudi Wulf : 5
Rene Ranger : 5
Israel Dagg : 5
Cory Jane : 4
Hosea Gear : 4
Plus Lelia Masaga and Sitiveni Sivivatu who are injured, there are a variety of options avaliable for New Zealand.

You're a goon. I'm sure that he watches whatever games of the S14 he has the time to watch and simply picks the tries he finds most inspiring out of those. I don't see what the problem is. To make it fit with a song, it's got to be a certain length, so some tries get excluded. Why don't you either (a) request a clip of the Cheetahs match or a specific try, or (b) make your own video and post it. Until then, come off it.

The only question is if Australia can challenge South Africa and New Zealand as best team.
The tackling might look poor to an Englishman, but that's cuz you lot don't know to break them.

As for the rugby - great stuff from the S14 as always. My Dad, who's as proud an England fan as ever there was, saw his first S14 game the other day and he said it was brilliant.
Quade Cooper is just the sort of player every true rugby fan loves to watch.

Bowden can't play because he's leaving at the end of the season. Which leaves us with crap for centres.
And I think with a backline featuring so many Hurricanes might not go over well with some of the Crusaders backs, who have actually been winning games :P I think people like Slade and Guildford deserve a shot, and I'd definitely like to see Ranger.

The only person I kind've like is Benson Stanley, but I think he is a bad option. We need to move someone then, like Israel Dagg to 12 or even Colin Slade. They are both first-fives, so it could work out. Hey, it is only Wales and Ireland, it is not like we are versing Fiji or Georgia.
