The Rugby Club Plays of the Week - North vs South
The New Zealand Maori played the New Zealand Barbarians in a centenary celebration game with some top quality tries, which you can view here .
The Maori side play Ireland this Friday, and to go with their fancy new jersey have a new looking wardance which, along with Ali-Williams-esque sound effects, is sure to have the opposition quaking in their boots.
Australia beat England, New Zealand thrashed a 14 man Ireland, and South Africa walloped France as the south scored tries aplenty, once again proving that these June fixtures are often quite questionable. Then again, should the same be said about the November internationals ? Its a debate that rages on and only seems to be settled at the World Cup.
Scotland did fly the flag for the north though, beating Argentina in Tucuman.
As always, take the video with a pinch of Australian salt as once again we see that anything with Quade Cooper involved generally gets the best try award.
Whether your side is winning or losing, its a great time to be a rugby fan as coverage couldnt get better, theres plenty to talk about, and you can see it all right here on Rugbydump.

Nice video, albeit a little weak on content. Great feature though, thanks!

Sorry Europe but Tom is right, no northern teams will make it past the quarters at the WC.

The differences in schedules and refeering make it very difficult to compare our teams on the basis of Autumn and Summer internationals.
SA and NZ are obviously the two best teams in the world, but certainly not by as far as you guys seem to be thinking.
Tom June 16, 2010 10:51 pm

Your lot has won about 15% of games against us in the last seven or eight years.
Consistently losing (away from home, at home, in Novemeber or June, it doesn't matter) will always mean your team doesn't get any respect.
Start playing better rugby and winning more, and then we'll talk!

If they just had a bit more realistic introspection and changed the way they play, they might win a few more games and show a bit more self-respect, rather than moaning and getting beaten again and again.
It's obvious to any sotherner that the northern style of play (slow, laboured, no ambition, too much kicking) is why they keep losing.
It's obvious.

how much south hem. players have played ?? maybe 13 match :)

So sick of the rugby club and their bias attitude, I hope Greg Martin impales himself on his mic.

Secondly, SH players play in both the S14 and their domestic comps, and in their national programs if they're good enough.
So the top South african, for example, baring injuries, will play 15 S14 games, probabyl about 15 Currie Cup games (The Currie Cup is of a BETTER standard than the T14 - that's right better - that's where half the bloody players in the T14 get signed from) and then about 15 international games.
Very few players would manage this, but a few do every year.
In other words the top South Africans play in up to 40-45 rugby games each year, almost all of which would be of a tougher, more intense and physically demanding nature than the T14 games French players are exposed to.

When the South goes North at the end of their season, they win a lot of their games. When last did NZ lose an "autumn test"? SA regularly win their games (exclude France and on occasion Ireland) and Aus, despite struggling against NZ and SA also win a lot of their games.
There is no doubting which hemisphere is better, or which hemisphere plays the more attractive rugby.

I love the plays of the week and I'm a saffa, who cares if it's baised it's bloody funny and very entertaining. The NH teams are good but admittedly the SH teams are just a step ahead.

NH use to be better in November.
It's just a question of timing though.
At the end, France always loose. HAHAHAA
(I'm french, but realistic)
FrankyH June 17, 2010 6:52 am

Funny clip. Clearly it's from an AUSTRALIAN tv show, made for Aussies, so why the hell shouldn't it be slanted in their direction? They have ripped into their own side in the past when they've lost too by the way.
I always thought Luke McAllister was suspect on defense!

no tries from the NH teams, just clips showing them dumb and violent. it seems like a soccer fan video.
So a big lol but come on, it's an aussie media, so let them talk, that's part of their game.
It won't be the same song during the rwc.
Whatever, congrats to SH teams. NH and SH, 2 hemisphers, 2 ways to feel rugby..

I don't know who you are referring to as "you". Since I'm french I don't consider myself much of a welshman not to mention englishman.
SA hadn't won a single game against us since 2005 before that one. We beat NZ and Aus on regular basis, particularly when it matters most...
I think you are mistaken when you say my team doesn't get any respect. Ask the kiwis who literally shit their pants when they play against us in world cups.
"Don't see the point watching the next world cup. No northern team is gonna make it past the quarter finals. :("
That's what they said in 99, 03 and 07... Keep saying that next year, please

Did anyone see the top 14 semi final between toulon and clermont, best game of the year by a long way, and that was at the end of the usual stupidly long french season!
I normally don't support the english but was slightly hopefull they might actually produce something in Oz with some of their players they have on tour, sadly the best play makers/ natural talented players are stuck in the midweek team. That said it is greatly satisfying to see an aussie scrum get totally creamed. Injuries aside even full strength i reckon it would be backpedalling, just unfortunate there's nothing outside of the 7 ( i don't rate easter @8) to actually make use of it.
I should add that i'm a scot and thus still on a high after our supposed weak scrum stood up to a FULL STRENGTH Puma pack last weekend, and our great display of defending vs the aussies in november complete with giteau's choke!

Anyone who doubts this is biased in favour of the NH.
FLOOZ June 17, 2010 4:20 pm

June tests 2010 = end of the NH season, big defeats for NH teams which can taste the SH/super 14 peak of form.
Autumn tests 2010 = End of SH season, intense matchs, some victories for NH (except against new zealand)
Summer tests 2011 = end of the NH season, Super14 for SH.
RWC in september-october = enigma
