All Blacks beat the Wallabies to all but secure the Tri Nations title
Mils Muliaina scored the opening try after a great sequence of play that seemed to go on for ages without a break. Eventually it was some slick play from the backs that resulted in the try.
As with last week, there was a hit back try almost instantly as Kurtley Beale took advantage of a Dan Carter error to run away untouched for a nice opportunist try. Conrad Smith later scored for the All Blacks, with Dan Carter adding two penalties.
This now the ninth successive win for the All Blacks over the Wallabies, matching their worst ever losing streak against the trans-Tasman rivals. Between 1936 and 1947, they also lost nine tests.
The All Blacks now need just one more point in their remaining two games against South Africa to add to their 19 which will secure the Tri Nations title, which will be their fifth in six years.
Australia are on four points, and the title holding Springboks, who are yet to play a home game, sit at the bottom of the table with no points to their name. If you were online betting , this years tournament results have perhaps gone differently to what one would have expected before hand.
The good news is that there were no yellow cards issued, and referee Jonathan Kaplan kept a far lower profile than we have seen from officials in previous weeks, which was great.

NZ are dominating tri nations this year, they'll be the ones to beat in the world cup no doubt.

Think Pocock will probably have some shoulder problems come up over the next couple of weeks.

I cannot believe, when NZ go through the same situation now (same core of players from the last world cup, pretty much settled squad and young players not shy to come forth and they're starting to generate a momentum pretty much the time frame b4 the RWC), people actually think the AB are gonna choke instead of worrying about them for the RWC.

But I don't think New Zealand are "cheats" and getting away with cause of dodgey officiating. The level of corruption that implies being present in the IRB and its officiating staff is completely ridiculous. To think the refs are just bad is also ridiculous, since this is their jobs, they are the best in the world at it so thats as good as its going to get.
I'm English btw, so don't think I'm some Kiwi zealously defending my own. And yes I know, for an Englishmen to say another team plays tedious rugby is a bit hypocritical

I've always been impressed with Conrad Smith, he always seems to be playing in slow motion, is kinda skinny but always makes his way to the try line. Great asset to have on your side, in my opinion.
Also, I was impressed with Anthony Faingaa. Looked always like going forward and tackling hard. Save for a couple defensive mismatches early, he had a solid game.
Quade Cooper, Digby Ioane and Rob Horne must come back soon. Aussies surely miss them

Referee was okay.. still missed something.. and i agree yellow card for the hit by Woodcock...
still a great match... Aus is doing better... look forward to next year as these young fellows get some more great matches under their belts and improve..
NZ is dominant and look forward to their taking the WC next year...

Does anyone remember when the Wallabies were on the attack in the ABs 22 and had a fine pass ruled forward? If you know when it was please request it for the site.

NZ are, once again, the team to beat. In England our media are already talking about how England 'might peak at just the right time'. You've got to laugh, we're just so far off the pace!
Not got a lot of love for NZ (BOD speartackle/assault saga still makes me angry), but they're the team to beat, by far. It'd be good for the sport to see them absolutely spank the opposition at the WC in NZ.
McCaw is an all-time great captain. I don't like him, wouldn't want to play against him, but for me that's what makes for a great captain. He knows how to captain at international level. A lot of people complain that he gets away with murder, but surely that just comes down to being an intelligent captain and playing the referees well.

Basides, Im looking forward to the World Cup. I cant see any European team with enough pace and skill to beat NZ, Australia or even SA and Argentina...

The AB's wore black arm bands for the death of former all black Eric Tindall, and a NZ soldier killed in afghanistan.
The aussies wore armbands to commemorate the death of former wallay winger Jeff Mclean.
dunno about black boots.

Defies belief, doesn't it! Talk about a cheap shot. Although Faingaa was taking an eternity to get up - and admitted as much after the game! He commented to the effect that he deserved to be taken out, but dirty, cynical and unnecessary by Woodcock.
"for the first try,did the ball not hit the advertising boards from Oz's clearing kick, thereby preventing a quick throw?the touch should have picked up on that"
By Anonymous Leeners93, at August 07, 2010 6:11 P
No, it didn't, Jane stopped it with his left hand.
And for the many anonymous posters claiming a forward Ozzy pass. No, it wasn't.
NiWiTa August 09, 2010 10:09 am

As an England supporter I would be very surprised that even England "peaking" in time for the world-cup would see us beating a southern hemisphere team at the moment! Obviously hope springs eternal but to compete in the loose as well as Oz/NZ currently is an impossibility for us. Johnson needs to go.
Biggest surprise this tri-nations has been the poor performances (not helped by egregiously soft yellows) for South Africa. the enourmous talent they have is being poorly managed by PDV. I think a different coach would make a massive difference. Does anyone else think PDV should go?

I also think that if Woodcock had been shown yellow the AB's would have handled it well as they've proven time and again. The AB's are the best in the world, but they aren't perfect. They say that about themselves all the time. It's not their fault if the refs don't penalize them as harshly as they do every other team. EVERYONE cheats. I watch enough rugby and have played enough to know that just about every team does. The AB's aren't the only ones nor do they do it more than other teams.
