Jamie Cudmore gets 40 day ban for punch on Gregory Le Corvec

Serial offender Jamie Cudmore has been handed a 40 day ban after being cited for his latest offence against Perpignan in their Top 14 game a few weeks back. He had just made a return from suspension.
Cudmore struck Perpignan forward Gregory Le Corvec on the ground in what looks like somewhat of a cheapshot, possibly based on the history between the two players. Le Corvec was suspended last season after tampering with Cudmores eyes.
The big Canadian second rower has been temporarily suspended since the incident, so by the time his ban comes to an end, he will have missed five matches in total for Clermont. Hes only played in nine Top 14 games this season. Hes spending more time off the pitch than on it these days, as the game against Perpignan was his return after being out for 70 days following a stamp.
His disciplinary record is accumulating and the next time he so much as steps out of line, you can be sure that the resultant suspension will be far heavier than one that would match the crime.
According to Planetrugby , since joining Clermont in 2003 hes picked up 21 yellow cards and 3 red cards. That doesn't include citings and suspensions. Surely at this stage Clermont must be wondering if at the age of 32, he's becoming a liability.

I will say one thing though in reference to only this incident. If he was eye gouged sometimes a suspension isn't enough and you need some personal revenge.

He had several run-ins with police and served a year in a juvenile detention centre after being found guilty of assault.
Cudmore's name was also linked to a fatal attack that captured headlines across Canada, even though he wasn't directly involved in the incident.
With his family away, Cudmore held a party on New Year's Eve 1997 but he wasn't in the house when a neighbour came to investigate and was beaten to death by two men.'

"Nemesis" would be appropriate and while Cudmore wrote a letter saying that Lecorvec did nothing; LeCorvec instead of taking the matter in his own hands turns out to be a cry baby...even though he's the one who started it.
Nevertheless, Jamie does deserve a suspension for sure.

I do notice we have had a Paranoid Frog though. I see now the bias is against French TEAMS not just French players as it was before. Vraiment?

Ban the guy for ever, he's an insult to rugby
alf January 20, 2011 2:23 pm

Either way, he would have plenty of options to get into scuffles then.
I think he's a blight on Clermont's reputation as well - for someone who isn't already a fan, to see that they continue to support and pay a player like that says something about the team itself. It's like Vick playing for the Eagles. Just a douchebag.

Cudmore somehow manages to get himself in the poo over and over again! This punch wasnt even huge but it was sooo unnecessary. Just stupid, and embarrassing. Back to the couch for you Jamie.
James Coffey January 20, 2011 3:02 pm

They pay him to play rugby not spend the majority of his time suspended.

furthermore, he has become an easy target to provokate in order to earn yellow and red cards. Vern Cotter is very patient..

Anyway, onto this....I always love watching/hearing about Cudmore...there is nothing disintegrating about a game when he is involved as he nearly always produces some sort of fight or scrap.
It is quite laughable, but yes in reality, this is a business more than a game and he obviously costs money yet you don't get the power from him...(as he is banned so damn much)
Can't really argue about the ban, I suppose given his previous record he can expect large bans for lesser infringements...

Not accusing him of anything...but than again not denying that in rugby we might also have some dishonest people.
dutchrugbyplayer January 20, 2011 4:33 pm

PS RD can you please ban these comments and those idiots?
Mike January 20, 2011 5:23 pm

That is like saying 'corruption is a part of politics, so don't complain about it'. Wrong. Punching people on the ground or other violence happens, but it not part of the game. That is why the laws do not allow it. Stop moaning just because this idiot was caught AGAIN.
Mike January 20, 2011 5:25 pm

Don't worry, it's usually pretty obvious when there's a doppel posting like that. (cue obvious doppels in my name)

And Saint Jamie - if Clermont and its supporters want everyone else to stop assuming they're a bunch of cheating thugs, then maybe they ought not present themselves that way.
I was thinking of starting a charity foundation that works to cure cancer and give terminal children the chance to enjoy their lives while they can. Now that he's got some free time, I was thinking of having Dudus Coke as our CEO and Amy Winehouse as our Chair. What do you think?

And it isn't just a punch. It's a cheap shot, like most of his offenses. When he goes up against someone head to head he gets the crap kicked out of him (by O Conell), so he usually sticks to cheap shots.

Clearly he can bring a well needed physicality to the game of ASM but at which cost....
40 days is very light I believed, even if there is an history between the two players.
What bother me the most in the ban lenght is that if this would happen in a Hcup game he would deservedly got 10 weeks at least.
Surely we (French) cannot be surprised afterwise if some of our club players get heavy banned during European games since we are clearly not sending the right message locally.
dutchrugbyplayer January 20, 2011 10:56 pm

As much as I love RD in keeping me updated etc I have to say I hate some of the comment boards, they seem like a playground for school kids who know nothing of rugby!!!

Hahaha good one, it just makes it funnier the fact that its a lie.
Juggernauter January 21, 2011 3:40 pm

I'd send him to Stade Francais and let Guazzini make him fight with a lion or something (or even old Bakkies) as a show before matches. That way he would unleash his wrath without ruining the game, and once the fight is over, back to your cage!

Dutchcantplayrugby January 21, 2011 11:03 pm

Excuse my troll, in all fairness though as a non saffa I'd still consider matfield as the best lick in the game these days...so no cudmore is not there with him....he is not bad though. He has the height and power or any good second row. He also has a good sight for the game and can carry the ball well, the problem is his discipline though, his inability to keep his cool could possibly push him down to one of the worst locks in the game. In some sense you see bakkies who is apparently a 'great and formidable player' but I don't see it, nor accept it because of his ill-discipline.

(if someone has found something about this on the web, I will be glad to have a look)
I believed the ranking was:
1/ Cudmore
2/ Leguizamon
3/ Marconnet

What, you've never seen a Canadian?
And to who said that Michael Vick was an insult to whatever team he played for. Do you even watch the NFL? Vick was one of the best damn quarterbacks in the league this season and always exciting to watch.
