France crush Wales' outside hope of Championship win
The agile French lock scored either side of half-time, with his tries killing off any ambitions the Welsh had of pulling of a shock win.
Whilst Ireland's 24-8 win over England meant that if Wales could beat France by 27 points they would be crowned Six Nations champions, they were blown away by a clinical France side who looked to reclaim some face after the shock defeat to Italy last week.
Welsh fly-half James Hook took a well-struck penalty early on and wing Leigh Halfpenney was fractions from a score until a brilliantly timed ankle tap from fly-half Francois Trinh-Duc prevented the score.
Instead it was France who got the games first try, with Nallett throwing a dummy and charging to the line; and when Hook's attempted clearance kick was charged down by Julien Pierre early in the second-half, Nallet was allowed to touch down for the second time.
Hook was in the sin bin for an alleged dangerous tackle when Vincent Clerc made the extra man count, collecting Trinh-Ducs chip to score France's third try.
A content Marc Livremont said that he was encouraged by the manner with which his team bounced back from defeat to Italy last week.
"What is important here was the reaction of the players," he said.
"I feel happy. I also feel a bit of relief. I'm really impatient to leave this room to go and enjoy a beer. It's not about what was said outside the group but what was said within the group and this what went right on the field today," the coach added.

Also, for Hook's tackle, I do have a bit of sympathy, because it wasn't too dangerous or malicious or anything, but at the end of the day he did just pick the guy up and throw him which was quite foolish, so I don't have any complaints with the yellow.

Quality tap tackle as well, tracked back behind 2 other players then executed the tackle with perfect timing. Never like the look of a player landing straight on their knees though, Halfpenny could've busted a joint in that tackle.

Worst time to play France; After they've just had a humiliating defeat

That's taking the letter of the law a bit far.

French forwards played like wild dogs for 80mins.
Obliterated Wales at the breakdown.

Nallet had a revenge to take after italy collective disaster. Not surprised to see him galoping through the pitch, he is a true gladiator but also have some Good legs.
Let's wish that lievremont Will install a group of leaders and call the right impact players in june. Picamoles, fritz, bastareaud, or dupuy will be in balance
As for hook tackle, Harsh decision because of the soft impact but yellow deserved. J.davies and Moore are very patriotic, it's normal, but sometimes they become a bit blind biased

Yeh the guy was french and apparently didnt speak english..however there was a f*cking translator next to him, you could have asked a few more questions and made it a bit more special for the player who was clearly the best on the pitch that day!!!!
Anyway, big rant over, onto little one..
James hook...WTF, NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN A CARD! NOT IN A MILLION YEARS!
Im all for carding spears or borderline spears, or tip tackles or something of the sort...but that was pathetic!
And im not even a Welsh fan..

LOL, Hate to break it to you, but Wales came 4th....
Actually I thought (apart from Wales) this 6N was one of the best I've seen in a long time...
Frenchy March 22, 2011 2:09 am

France need better centres than Traille and Marty for sure as they're way too slow and can't create any danger. I'd love to see Bastareaud, Fritz (?) in the squad...not sure Jauzion & Rougerie will be ever picked by Lievremont again.
France will play twice against Ireland in September...it's going to be a real test! I can't wait to see this one.
Jono March 22, 2011 2:31 am

Neither team is particularly impressive at the moment though.

I couldn't agree more. I don't know what mind games Gatland is trying, but he needs to shoulder the responsibility of the team's mental approach.
I sick to the teeth of the talk of 'wanting to be in the top three', or 'we're a team full of talent'. It's high time to walk the walk and not just talk the talk.
As has been said elsewhere, we're too predictable and one-dimensional. Is Gatland too proud to change his approach, when it clearly isn't working? If I were on the WRU I'd be seriously looking for a replacement.
Personally I'd drop Mike Phillips straight away. He's far too sluggish behind the ruck. We cycle the ball far too slowly and then we start running sideways. No wonder teams find us toothless in attack! Bring back Dwayne Peel!

Otherwise, fully agree with BigBuck's comment... France is always better after a big defeat, but always inconsistent, can't align two great matches...
Hope it will be better at the RWC, now...

Jonathan Davies is such an insufferable biased moron. Every welsh game he's been commentating for he's singing welsh praises and questioning anything against them, even when deserved, even when they're being rubbish. Makes Brian Moore bearable by comparison.
Utter bollocks.
Jonathan Davies is one of the most even-handed and impartial commentators in the game. Yes he's passionate about Welsh rugby, nothing wrong with that (you can't choose where you're born and someone has to support them!), but he's a good, fair commentator. Very quick to point out Wales's failings and shortcomings. If you want a one-eyed Welsh fan commentating, look at Eddie Butler.
Brian Moore biased? Do me a favour. Have you heard how much he lays into England when they're not playing well?
Luxi March 22, 2011 11:30 am

nice chip by FTD (again) for Clerc's try
about Hook's yellow card : well, he does lift the guy to horizontal and then just drops him, even if it wasn't malicious
jonathan davies kill yourself

We have good players (i think) but no games. Look at our tries, just turn over, we never cross directly the defense (just one time against Ireland)
For me, we will be ridiculous in the RWC. I hope a revival after this competition, with brilliant young players,a pragmatic new coach and a french identity in the offensive game.
Hook: sin bin
Cheers

This week has been crazy, as everybody was looking for who was guilty for the defeat in Italy.
I can imagine the mood was almost comparable to that in NZ, the week after they lost to France during RWC 2007.
The guys did react well, and most french rugby fan are now ready to support there team for RWC 2011.
Good for Nallet, who most of the time, is hard working in the ruck and doesn't get too much media exposure.

When Wales are playing he can be very one-eyed though. He gets emotional about Wales and often defends them unfairly and to passionatly.
Brian Moore is hopeless.
(u-p)rick March 23, 2011 4:07 pm

Personally I think whilst they are both passionate about their country they are the first to criticise and despise poor play. Moore has a tendency to talk scrum scrum scrum,... And JD has a tendency to over analyse every situation! I'm no Wales fan but hooks card was a weak decision... I often am the first to moan at people who say spears and similar are fine but this was not a card.. Not for any player from any country!! So I think it's fair enough that he moaned... An as for his general commentary... He was pretty complimentary about the French...
I personally find them better than any of the SA commentators... Those guys voices are so monotone and make me want to crash out!!!
