Gavin Henson smashed by Seru Rabeni, and other bits
The Barbarians picked up their second win in succession as they beat Wales 31-28 at the Millennium Stadium earlier today. Gavin Henson made his return in Welsh colours, but had a bit of mixed bag.
In a match that failed to really kick into gear, both sides looked a little all over the place. It was a good finish though with a nice Isa Nacewa try, and with two tanks in the Barbarians midfield, there were always going to be a few hefty tackles flying in from all directions.
Probably the biggest of the day was Fijian Seru Rabeni's massive hit on former Ospreys center Gavin Henson, who was playing for Wales for the first time since facing Ireland in 2009. It wasn't quite the return he'd hoped for, but he enjoyed being out there nevertheless.
"I am very proud today, getting back into that Welsh jersey. I have really enjoyed the week, getting back in and playing today," he said. "But I am bitterly disappointed with my performance, there were some bad decisions I made. It was a good game to be involved in and it was a pity we lost in the end."
Henson is obviously aiming to make Warren Gatland's World Cup squad, and said that he hopes the coach was impressed by the good things he did out there.
"I am not sure. I think I showed glimpses of what I could possibly do.It is not my decision, we will just have to wait and see. I would love to be involved in this summer's matches and the World Cup, but whether I did enough today I'm not sure."
Henson has since been included in Wales' provisional World Cup squad of 45, which will be reduced to 30 before August 22nd.
Below is a lighthearted look at Gavin's day, including the big tackle from Rabeni, and some of the other bits which he'd have been disappointed in. It's been uploaded very shortly after the game (by a Welshman) so is worth sharing for now, mainly because of the big hit, and perhaps a bit of a laugh for some.
Highlights of the match will probably be posted sometime over the next day or so.

FYI, if you didn't watch the match, he did some good too. Nice hands, decent defence. He'll more than likely be selected to play for Wales again so he has another chance to show what he can do.

Funny when the TV guy asked Shanklin about Henson's performance, he switched the subject right away and said there are plenty of other players to talk about! Ha ha. Gavin Henson...a guy ya just gotta love to hate. I do, at least. This video was certainly worth a smile!
But that shouldn't keep me from admitting he's a pretty darned good player when his head is on his shoulders instead of up his ass...

I think the world cup would be much better with him playing well. It's a shame you have only 11 top nations or so in the world and one of them is playing like crap.
Wales' game is pretty boring this days, and it doesn't surprise me with only hook and shane williams having some creativity in their game right now. I feel kinda sad when i watch them play, they limit their game to run forward hoping to run over teh opposiotion. With gavin playing well they may play more criativelly.

I for one really enjoyed watching this egotistical moron being smashed. If he'd kept his head down over the years this vid wouldn't have even been made and he would have been noted for his rugby and not his hair.

Will you be uploading the highlights from USA vs Saxons? PLENTY of tries there, and worth it just to see some of the good stuff. Canada vs Italy A was less exciting but also worth showing if possible.

To be honest, I agree with Neil Jenkins, who said that in order to be selecte for the World Cup you have to be running in some strong form.
Henson's selection was just based in reputation and history rather than form. Personally I think that this guy doesn't belong to these big stages. He's let an awful lot of people down in little time, and those decisions have been his own, nobody forced him to do anything. He just seems not to love the game, and is kind of displicent towards selection. To em this guy's mind is like "Oh, I've got a reputation of being a good enough player so I'll say some stuff to the media to put some pressure on the coaches so I can envigorize my chances of going to the World Cup, and I won't have to make that much of an effort".
I don't know the guy personally but everything I've heard about him is plain awful, for many, many years now. Definitely Davies, Roberts, Biggar, Hook, North deserve a spot in the Wales XV way more tha he does.
All this is, of course, my personal opinion.

He definitely still has the handling skills, has always been very good at putting others into space. (apart from that MASSIVELY forward pass obviously).

If you think differently then you need to read up on the history of rugby union.as for the vid, it was funny and a good hit. henson played shit and personally i dont think at this stage he deserves a world cup place but thats not for me to decide plus he could improve. I think Wales will get it together for the world cup, hopefully the team will play as a unit and prove that they are not just there to make up the numbers. Wales showed some promise in that game, could have done with jamie roberts in hensons place. come on WALES!!!

Made me chuckle,even as a Welsh person haha!He doesn't deserve a place in the squad in my opinion,I think it's time to show off the talent our younger players have.Although we lost,I noticed a big difference when all the subs came on,they seemed to add a bit of extra spark,pity that they didn't pick up a win.
