Gavin Henson smashed by Seru Rabeni, and other bits

The Barbarians picked up their second win in succession as they beat Wales 31-28 at the Millennium Stadium earlier today. Gavin Henson made his return in Welsh colours, but had a bit of mixed bag.
In a match that failed to really kick into gear, both sides looked a little all over the place. It was a good finish though with a nice Isa Nacewa try, and with two tanks in the Barbarians midfield, there were always going to be a few hefty tackles flying in from all directions.
Probably the biggest of the day was Fijian Seru Rabeni's massive hit on former Ospreys center Gavin Henson, who was playing for Wales for the first time since facing Ireland in 2009. It wasn't quite the return he'd hoped for, but he enjoyed being out there nevertheless.
"I am very proud today, getting back into that Welsh jersey. I have really enjoyed the week, getting back in and playing today," he said. "But I am bitterly disappointed with my performance, there were some bad decisions I made. It was a good game to be involved in and it was a pity we lost in the end."
Henson is obviously aiming to make Warren Gatland's World Cup squad, and said that he hopes the coach was impressed by the good things he did out there.
"I am not sure. I think I showed glimpses of what I could possibly do.It is not my decision, we will just have to wait and see. I would love to be involved in this summer's matches and the World Cup, but whether I did enough today I'm not sure."
Henson has since been included in Wales' provisional World Cup squad of 45, which will be reduced to 30 before August 22nd.
Below is a lighthearted look at Gavin's day, including the big tackle from Rabeni, and some of the other bits which he'd have been disappointed in. It's been uploaded very shortly after the game (by a Welshman) so is worth sharing for now, mainly because of the big hit, and perhaps a bit of a laugh for some.
Highlights of the match will probably be posted sometime over the next day or so.

But that shouldn't keep me from admitting he's a pretty darned good player when his head is on his shoulders instead of up his ass...
(Anon at 8:44pm, if that's true, then why don't you go ahead and do that, put some humorous music to it, and submit it to the site? I bet the owner would even appreciate the help in creating content for the site.)

It's just humuristic, for who finds it funny...
whatever, everybody talks shit about gavin, so it's like a single drop in the fuckin ocean.
Really hope he gets his shit together sooner rather then later.
Carlos June 04, 2011 7:23 pm

I think the world cup would be much better with him playing well. It's a shame you have only 11 top nations or so in the world and one of them is playing like crap.
Wales' game is pretty boring this days, and it doesn't surprise me with only hook and shane williams having some creativity in their game right now. I feel kinda sad when i watch them play, they limit their game to run forward hoping to run over teh opposiotion. With gavin playing well they may play more criativelly.
Isn't wales the team with the biggest players around? they're like all 1,90m plus and 100kg plus, except 3 or 4 players. They should be able to do much better.
And I'm portuguese so... just a neutral fan that loves the sport.

He seems to have a problem with not being picked and therefore he "quits" rather than proving the selectors wrong.
I think he is a good player I just wish his brain was a little more switched on.
No biggie about the WC anyway, Wales won't make it passed the quarters..
And NZ will choke.
I predict another saffa whitewash!

The fuckin arrogance... if u owned a blog as successfull as this one and get comments like this for the stuff you put on, would you like that shit?
Yeah say you dont like the vid or sugest stuff but "less of this"? wtf, do you own the world?
There's too many people complayning about the videos in this blog, you don't even pay for this, and i bet besides commenting, you never even contributed for the blog.
so much negativity... it's not because of people like you that things like this blog exist.
hope people responsible for the blog ignore this kind of stuff.

He's a great player but as someone said, if he didnt draw such attention to himself with ridiculous off field antics, he wouldnt be the source of gimmicks like this.
Juggernauter June 04, 2011 9:08 pm

Henson's selection was just based in reputation and history rather than form. Personally I think that this guy doesn't belong to these big stages. He's let an awful lot of people down in little time, and those decisions have been his own, nobody forced him to do anything. He just seems not to love the game, and is kind of displicent towards selection. To em this guy's mind is like "Oh, I've got a reputation of being a good enough player so I'll say some stuff to the media to put some pressure on the coaches so I can envigorize my chances of going to the World Cup, and I won't have to make that much of an effort".
I don't know the guy personally but everything I've heard about him is plain awful, for many, many years now. Definitely Davies, Roberts, Biggar, Hook, North deserve a spot in the Wales XV way more tha he does.
All this is, of course, my personal opinion.
Cheers

maybe it turned up quickly because it's the only thing the rugby press has been talking about all week, so people would presumably want to know how he did, and lets be honest, that was his most outstanding moment.
Mason on the other hand looked pretty good for a guy whose only been playing this code for a few weeks. Couple of good offloads and seems to have thea ability to go through 3 people.
Henson sucks June 04, 2011 10:56 pm

He draws attention to himself by proclaiming to be this and that and shitting on every club that gives him a chance. Do stupid things like that and expect a MASSIVE amount of pisstaking at your expensive.

Rabeni is quality on his day, runs hard and so good in defence but he was (and presumably still is) far too injury prone so tigers let him go

Not sure what the Boks might be "loosing", but since South Africa has little to nothing to do with this video, I think you're just here to troll.

Totally unjustified trolling there mate.
Funny video. Song sums him up perfectly!
David June 05, 2011 8:02 am

His lack of game time defintely showed, and even though off the field his moronic actions have been well documented, Wales need a fit and firing henson at his best, sorry guys! but its true, and if he can get anywhere near his best form again hats off to him.

Willie Mason did more in 10 minutes and he's a league man.

Rabeni is massive too..

No one cares about the Tri-Nations. Watch this year - it will be used to test fringe players before the thing that really counts, the world cup.
And we all know who the current world champs are, The mighty Bokke.
