Andrew Hore asks if they're actually allowed to tackle Dan Carter

Andrew Hore and Maa Nonu bid farewell to Wellington this past weekend as they played their final matches for the Hurricanes, ending off with a moment that will no doubt be remembered as one of the more amusing of the season.
Nonu and Hore were told recently that their services are no longer wanted in Wellington. They join a list of long serving players who finished up on the weekend, including front rowers John Schwalger and Neemia Tialata. Piri Weepu is also uncertain about his future.
While over 17 000 attended the game against the Crusaders at Westpac Stadium, there was no big farewell ceremony, no speeches, not even a mention of it. Instead the players quietly said their goodbyes to the crowd, and ended Hurricanes careers that have spanned years, and over 100 caps each.
It wasnt a happy send-off result wise, as the Crusaders won the tight contest 16-9, but early in the game Nonu imposed himself, taking out All Black golden boy Dan Carter with a big hit. It was called up for being a late tackle, which was probably harsh, as no arms were the real problem there.
Referee Chris Pollock received a report from the touchline, then acted on it as he penalised the center. "Is there a new rule that you can't tackle Dan Carter?" enquired Andrew Hore cheekily, hinting at how valuable and important a player he is in New Zealand.
The hooker later joked that touchjudge Shane McDermott used to play in his club team and his brother used to keep him out, so he thought maybe he was trying to get one back. Hore also seemed to be having a bit of a laugh with the opposing front row.
"I took 70 minutes to get a smile out of Owen Franks and Ben Franks out there, but I finally got one, so I was pleased."
Nonu and Hore will both be a part of the World Cup, but after that are unsure where theyre heading. Hore has said hed like to stay in New Zealand, but has had interest from Agen in France, while there has been talk of Nonu being linked to Ospreys in Wales, and the Sharks in South Africa.
"Up until three weeks rugby was always a game for me but over the last couple of weeks I've come to realise that it's a job and that's the way decisions are made.
"That's probably the pleasing thing about getting back to the farm, the sheep don't care what you look like and you can just chase them around," said farmer Hore.

I love Andrew Hore and Ma'a Nonu - big loss for the Hurricanes, big gain for someone else.

Nothing wrong with the tackle, and putting the effort in for as many season as he has, Hore has the experience to know that Super Rugby is not what it used to be.
Changed for the worse in not only my opinion.
By the way.... spoken from an american, so you can put the biased pride arguments to rest.

Nothing wrong with ruffing up your opposite man like this, the game's turning into a pussy's sport

It was not a tackle he shoulder charged Carter , forget this crap about not being allowed to rough up players and turning rugby into a pussy sport
The laws governing the tackle are there for a reason , primarily to protect players both the tackler and the tackled player
Nonu had time to tackle Carter properly , it was a cheap shot
Get a grip of yourselves all those moaning about making the game of rugby soft, you can put in a fair hard agressive tackle all within the laws of the game

Textbook Nonu shoulder charge, merited a penalty. The refs may have given the wrong reason, it still turned out to be the right call.

Nonu and Hore deserve much better from the Canes. Crazy that they are being pushed out the door.

When did Hore say Super Rugby is not what it used to be? What does that even mean?
Anonymous June 20, 2011 2:04 pm

Yes, I think I shall settle in New Zealand.
Juggernauter June 20, 2011 2:22 pm

And I was just thinking, how weird is that Wellington is letting these two go? I mean, Nonu and SBW are the top two NZ centres going to the world cup, and Hore shares his place on the team with Mealamu, top two kiwi hookers if you aske me.
I think these guys should go to Europe (frankly, the toughest decision to make, which is leaving your all life club is forcely done) and European rugby could only benefit from the class and experience from these two. France or the UK in my opinion. Also they are both in their 30's, way to end your career in the south of France!

And yes, no arms in the tackle. Penalty. Has ALWAYS been a rule - yes even in them olden days when the REAL men used to play whilst chewing tobacco (unflinchingly carrying on with blood gushing out of several battle wounds)
blah blah...

I agree. Super Rugby does rugby extremely well, but the crowds more often than not seem to lack intensity (and of the three countries, NZ seems to be the most subdued). I realize some of it comes from the size of the stadiums and whatnot, but come on...this is the same country that knows how to party for sevens tournaments, but the Super Rugby crowds seem a little more low-key.
Then again, maybe it's just the television not capturing the excited atmosphere properly...I really can't say (since television is the only way I can watch these matches).
In any case, it would've been nice to see more of a good send off for those guys. To be fair, though, I think Hore may have at least received a (short) standing ovation, didn't he?
PS - Project Tyranny, no need to put it out there that you're an American. Unlike you, there are plenty of us who both know the rules (this was a fair penalty) and still get a kick out of watching Super Rugby (because it's still goddamn exciting)...don't give us all a bad name.

Great poker face, use your arms next time bra!

That's what Hore was saying.
And he and Nonu are not leaving the Canes by choice, they have been told they won't be offered a new contract. I think it has to do with their relationship with the coach.
But if anyone goes, based on the team's preformance, the coach should be the one shown the door.
Corey Jane has said he wants to leave now too.

of course nz has been done over with the quakes it would effect everywhere, but as a club part of a tournament trying to show respect for the players dedicating themselves to a team for that long it sends a pretty shit message to all other players on how you could be treated.
maybe they just weren't pretty enough like carter
