Best Tries of the Top 14 - Top Ten so far

The French Top 14 has produced some fantastic tries of late, particularly in the last two rounds but this is a look at the Top Ten up until then, with just under ten minutes of brilliant rugby as ranked by Canal+ TV station in France.

We used to post these clips far more regularly in the past but that is often reliant on contributions from users, so when that dries up, so do the videos. As has been mentioned many times, if you're in a position to help out with these type of videos, please do get in touch or submit links to them and we'll share.

As always the Top Ten nature of these are subjective and probably shouldnt be looked at as 1 to 10 but rather just ten of the best. That said, the try that Toulouse scored that comes in at number one is absolutely outstanding overall.

David Smith of Toulon started and finished an excellent try against Stade Francais, while Felipe Contepomi created a piece of magic himself, that time against Clermont. The Bordeax-Begles try, scored by none other than a front rower, will definitely go down as a team try of the season.

As always, the commentary adds to the occasion and the crowds in France, particularly in the build up for that Jauzion try, make the Top 14 fascinating and incredibly exciting to watch at times.

If you have any other requests, suggestions, or contributions because you watch Top 14 regularly, don't be shy to get in touch. We'll have more great clips from the Top 14 in the next few days.

PLEASE start submitting videos with higher resolution.

That final phase in Jauzion's try was spectacular.

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Picking a favourite would be like trying to pick my favourite organ. French rugby going strong.

These are good but I'd love to see a few more from last week's action. Ngwenya's try came at the end of 80 metres of easy-going flipped passes. Brilliant try and plenty more genius from Toulouse as well.

Last phase of the Jauzion's try is good but there's a lot of crap leading to it. Typically French: Capable of the best and the worse.

Forgot something: TOULOUSAING! TOULOUSAING!

I'm very excited because I live in Mexico and I haven't seen a live game for 2 years. Getting back home for christmas, I obliged my dad to buy tickets for the Toulouse-Bayonne game. Can't wait

Still baffles me why Jauzion didn't make the French side for the WC.

Possibly because he's really slow now. The same players that are very "penetrant" for ST are rarely as good at international level imo.

There are some fine young French centres around that deserved to be promoted now, Yann David for a start.

Nice tries but can't help thinking that #8 should never have been allowed, the guy who opened the ball out was lying on the ground, it wasn't a continuation of his own movement so no real excuse for allowing it. Ruck infringements everywhere in try #6 also. Not trying to be a wet blanket, but if it's a best of....

The try that Ngwenya scored for Biarritz against Montpellier last week was INCREDIBLE and could have been added here. A full 80m try with many offloads and even an over-the-defender flip of the ball. It was so good that at half-time, the Montpellier coach Béchu said something along the lines of "it's difficult to feel bad about letting them score that try, because it was absolutely superb".

It seems that in this compilation by French pay-per-view channel Rugby+, tries with a lengthy buildup are privileged as "top ten material", as opposed to tries with incredible technical skills or dazzling actions, which I would more often pick as top ten material.

sidenote: Since Jauzion and Traille are old, and Mermoz is not always convincing, I can venture right here that centres Yann David (Toulouse), Henry Chavency (Racing Metro) and Wesley Fofana (Clermont) will surely be called up for France in the very near future.

The try you're referring to has been posted on the homepage. Absolutely incredible.

You could see 2 of the futur french national team players: n°12 and n° 15 from clermont (the yellow team)
Nice tries...

I totally agree.
Their names are Fofana (n°12), center or wing et Buttin (n°15), fullback.
Both formed at Clermont.

agree with most of comments

canal + prefer to show long and collective tries rather very speedy tries and technic counter-attacks
that said, i'm very confident of the french XV backline in the future, whien i watch the actual performances of young lads like fofana, chavancy, buttin, david, barraque or lesgourgues
