Friday Funnies - Referee Romain Poite caught in front of the kicker

Referee Romain Poite has been involved in his fair share of funny incidents over the years (most of which are archived here on RD, and can be viewed in the related posts below). This one is a first though, coming to us from the Top 14 game between Mont de Marsan and Bordeaux Begles.

At kick-off Poite made sure that both sides were ready, everyone was behind the kicker, and then blew his whistle to start the game..

hahaha mr poite seems like a funny guy. Took it in stride and didn't get too embarrassed about it. We've all seen a ref get in the way, it happens. Not a big deal

Bit of a balls up all round there... not only did Poite block a kick to the other side there, the 10 also balls'd up the second kick lol...

Although I think he did the "Right thing" by resetting the kick, buy the letter of the law, shouldn't he have restarted with a scrum to the kicking side?

Um... good point, I'd say no because it was not "open play" (which is normally when we see referee's awarding scrums to team in possession)... but that is purely my "opinion"/basic understanding...

Indeed, he should have awarded a scrum to the kicking side, since the ball is in "open play" as soon as it is kicked off.
