Dubai Sevens 2012 - Day One Highlights

Day one of the Dubai Sevens was as fascinating as ever as Portugal produced big upsets by beating both England and South Africa, while Canada beat France and drew with Australia.

Both sides advance to the Cup Quarter Finals, where Canada will play Kenya, and Portugal face New Zealand. Fiji play France in the other quarter final, and Samoa face Wales.

Congrats to my countrymen, getting out alive of arguably the Pool of Death and leaving 2 favourites behind in the process. Now in all seriousness, a reflection of the investment we have been putting in the national squads and on up-and-coming youngsters. Very young team, with at least 3 teenagers, guided by the masterming Pedro Cabral. Not so sure about the All Blacks game, though

It's good to see teams like Spain, Portugal and Russia improving and causing some major upsets. The gap is closing between all the teams and you hardly see huge thrashings anymore. It's great for rugby.
