Dimitri Yachvili carded for swinging arm on Delon Armitage

Biarritz scrumhalf Dimitri Yachvili was yellow carded for dangerous high tackle against Toulon in the Top 14 this past weekend. Delon Armitage, who we have seen dish out a few of his own in the last few years, was unlucky to be on the receiving end.

Armitage wasn't badly injured by it but he did stay down for a while, clearly shaken by the swinging forearm to the face. Yachvilli received his marching orders, even though he didn't look too pleased.

Both are highly competitive characters, so when Armitage broke and was only just caught by Zee Ngwenya, Yachvili made sure he was there to put in a hit. Unfortunately it was in the face.

Armitage hasn't been too popular with fans in France, particularly after the hand gesture incident with Brock James in the Heineken Cup final. You can actually hear a bit of a boo and some whistles when he set off with the ball at the start of this clip.

Some in the crowd also probably felt he was milking it, but after seeing the replays of Yachvili's tackle, it's no surprise that the former England fullback stayed down.

The thing about the Armitage brothers I don't get: the tall one is the back and the short one is the forward. They both play like jerks.

The tall one *is* a jerk, though I take no pleasure in seeing him clattered in the face by a cowardly bitchmove. Good player though.

The short one is widely recognised as one of the best opensides in Europe.

I take plenty of pleasure from seeing him get a taste of his own medicine :)

For every ten Arms Hermitage the Frog has given he might get only one it return. Its about time some one clobbers him. Ive seen atlest 3 done by him on players like O'driscol and getting away with it!

What did he do to O'Driscoll?

It's not what you want to see in a game of rugby but it is slightly satisfying to see Armitage get a taste of his own medicine. One of the dirtiest players playing the game in my opinion.

Now why did I not see anti-delon comments coming...?

You don't condone the things Armitage does, regular or not, yet you wave aside the exact things you dislike from a rugby player just because he is on the receiving end. 'Hypocrite' springs to mind.

No no no, completely wrong, Yachvilli deserved the card, perhaps even a ban, no one disputes that. It is merely just, out of the 15 opposition players running around, I'm glad Yachvilli chose Armitage..

A few resentfull people crawling out of the woodwork here. It makes me wonder what kind of values they (will) teach their kids.

So if that's what you teach your kids...point taken!

It's simple, you tell them that if they go around stuff arming folks, one day someone will do it to them, "what goes around comes around" "what's good to give is good to take" perfectly sound lessons...

Yachvili is well known for much more cheats and dirty tricks than Delon, though he's not whistled or criticised everywhere as Armitage actually does.

Of course, that can't be a color thing.

Whatever your opinion of either player, it was definitely a dangerous tackle and he was lucky to get away with only a yellow.

Oh please, the game is full of non-whites who don't get criticised, the truth is Yachvili is nowhere near as dirty or unsportsmanlike as Armitage. Just look at the list of videos under the clip....and that's not the half of it!

What an ignorant and immature thing to comment. Full Back points it out perfectly, and you obviously know nothing about Yachvili

comon man, i perfectly understand your rouge&noir affection but u can't compare yach and armitage. one is a cheaky scrumhalf (like many other 9 in the business), when the other often acts like in a twat ;)

but both have one thing in common: talent

The worst part of the tackle for me wasn't the swinging arm, it was leading with the elbow into the bal of the neck/head

The weirdest thing is that Yachvili doesn't think that is worth being sent off for when its a complete hook

Well, two wrongs don´t make a right.

But Yachvili made sure, Armitage break another tackle, that´s for sure. In my book the backchatting and questioning of the refs decision is more shameful than the high shot. These are happening in the heat of battle and have to be delt with, but there is no place for questioning the refs authority.

Yeah, the fact that he was still walking off the pitch a minute after he was carded is quite damning. If I was the referee I would have just taken my red card out of my pocket and told him to get off the pitch or he'd get his yellow upgraded. Especially considering that there was simply no doubt that it was a yellow card - he hooked his head for God's sake!

This is one of those incidents where people see it and think what does it take to show a red card in rugby. That was a deliberate forearm to the face. Could someone explain why it wasn't a red?

Bear in mind that last weekend an Aussie got the same punishment for a supposed tip-tackle which barely went over the horizontal and in no way risked serious injury to the tackled player

What Yachvili said to the refere was "i don't understand".
And the French commentators were scratching their heads, wondering if what happened actually happened.
One even suggested that Yachvili wanted to make an usual tackle but Delon Armitage went down at the same moment so the tackle went higher than planned.
I don't think so. I just say this to show how unexpected it looked from such a player.

Yachvili is a pure annoying scrumhalf, but he's never nasty.
