Rugby HQ's Plays of the Year for Test Rugby in 2013

Throughout the year we've archived Rugby HQ's highly popular Plays of the Week features, and as the show is about to take a break over in Australia, they've now come up with their Plays of the Year, featuring the very best in tries, tackles, funnies and more.

From an Australian point of view, hosting the British & Irish Lions series was the biggest event of the year, but things didn't go to plan for the home side as the men from up north pulled off the upset.

Since then, the Wallabies have been in disarray. They ended the Rugby Championship on a high with a big win over Argentina, but their performance against the All Blacks in the final Bledisloe Cup Test tomorrow will determine where they are and where they'll want to be come the end of the year.

They did score some great tries this year though, as featured in this video, but the winner of Try of the Year - according to Rugby HQ - went to Beauden Barrett and the All Blacks.

Biggest tackle of the year was quite easy to pick. It was also the most controversial tackle of the year, which could have been a category on it's own as refereeing came under the spotlight following more than a handful of questionable decisions this year.

The Lions got the nod for Moment of the Year, but after a classic Test match in Johannesburg, and with the End of Year tours still to come, the moment of this year could still be up for debate.

All in all, it's just a bit of fun and another chance for us to enjoy some great moments in 2013.

Thanks and credit as always to Fox Sports Australia and Sean Maloney, both of whom have done a great job bringing us these, and the Top 5, clips in 2013. Long may it continue.

Moment of the year, has to be the Barrett try-saving tackle on Willie le Roux. Because it perfectly captures the current state of international rugby.

The two best sides in the world, playing out the greatest test in recent memory, with NZ out in front with a bit to spare. Then (yet another) moment of inspiration from the newcomer of the year, he hares nearly the length of the field, only to be stopped at the last second by the NZ flyhalf, who is not Carter. Added bonus - it takes a TMO to confirm the decision.

It just said it all for me, that however well you play, whatever you throw at the ABs, they have an answer right now.

Australia's moment of the year, sorry fellas, it was Jake White walking out on the Brumbies having given up on the ARU's uselessness.

Sad to say it shows how far Australian rugby has declined that even the Plays team were unable to spin an Australian moment to win. Their selection of the Lions beating Australia shows a level of neutrality and integrity that I didn't know they had - quite disappointed actually!

Might as well just call this "Plays of the SANZAR and June Tours"

Fox posts nothing from the NH / 6N comps.. I guess because they don't own the rights to them.

and I guess "the year" is over for them because the November tour broadcast rights are owned by the NH countries.

Couldn't even wait for Bledisloe #3 either...

A travesty that they had to call this the "plays of the year" with the November internationals still to go. Just goes to show how much confidence the Aussies have in their results next month!

Ok George north try was no doubt number 1. Think about not only the skill but the context. I'd also be folaus first up there, unbelievable from genia. The other two tries were basically meaningless.

Otherwise I hate say this, pretty spot on

MDB22 -- it's more about the fact that Fox Sports doesn't show highlights of content they don't own.

As the November tests are played up north, the broadcast rights belong to those countries.

Thus in Fox Sports's world, those games never did / will happen.

i tend to often laugh at these aussie-oriented tops, but i've never watched a such dishonest selection of this summer tours

The reason its called "Plays of the Year" is because this segment was aired on the last Rugby HQ episode of the year. Hence why they couldn't wait for November NH tour.
