Mouritz Botha crunches Jean Deysel in Saracens vs Sharks friendly

Saracens beat the Sharks 23-15 in Saturday's friendly Super Rugby warmup game for the Currie Cup champions. Both teams were extremely physical at Allianz Park, so here is one of the biggest hits of the game, plus a compilation of some of the others.

It was billed as a friendly but there was no love lost out there as both sides looked like they had something to prove, with cross-hemisphere rivalries coming to the fore, as well as a few old friends getting reaquainted. Saracens do have a decent South African contingent after all.

One of those is big lock Mouritz Botha, who seemed to enjoy the physical tussle with the big Sharks players. His heavyweight clash with wrecking-ball Jean Deysel was brutal, even if Deysel was sold by an unforgiving pass from his scrum half.

"I love it when big lads just run straight at you, and they had some really big, physical guys playing for them. It was just a great day and I really enjoyed myself out of there today," said Botha.

Both sides made impressive big tackles and charges, with Deysel and Willem Alberts particularly prominent. View a compilation of the rough stuff on page two of this post, the match highlights on page three and Botha's thumping tackle on Deysel below.

Should these type of fixtures be played more regularly?

I guess Deysel ate the scrum halfs last rolo or something...

Gotta say that this goes to show that you can make a big hit and wrap your arms in the tackle, and not have the ball carrier "bounce off" and not get your arms around in time. Great tackle.

I don't think anyone ever said you couldn't. Just because you can, doesn't mean every time someone bounces off you need to ban the tackler.

1,000,000 x yes!
these fixtures should be played more often. Great to see two club sides from across the world squaring off.

I'm sorry but it doesn't show that at all, all these hits show the tackler moving towards the ball carrier and fully controlling the hit, sometimes the tackler will be stood still and the ball carrier will run into him, bouncing off before the tackler has time to rap and follow through with the tackle because he may notbe in full control, rugby is a fast game and a millisecond cam make a huge difference , and sometimes in that millisecond can mean a no arm tackle. Having said that I'm a 6 and love a cheeky shoulder charge, good hits nonetheless

"One of those [South Africans] is big lock Mouritz Botha"

Except Mouritz is now officially a Pom. Or does he not like being reminded?

This is the future. Champions League style international club matches.

Would you rather watch Leicester vs Wellington Hurricanes or Italy vs Scotland?

I'm still waiting for the hits Alberts and Deysel put in on Sar, or as we called it South African Representatives.

Scrum-half should be dropped and fined.

Looks like a man taking out frustration on not getting into or the chance to play for the SA rugby team out in one tackle.
