CNN reports on the growth of Rugby Sevens in the USA and globally

This is a very interesting report from CNN as they head to Las Vegas to find out more about how rugby is growing in the USA. Rugby Sevens Worldwide speaks to local fans and players to see what they think of the sport and how it could possibly take off in a place that has traditional American sports firmly entrenched in the mindset and culture of the people.

It features interviews with Carlin Isles, USA Rugby CEO Nigel Melville, USA head coach Matt Hawkins and former Fijian superstar Waisale Serevi.

It's a long watch but very interesting, and quite amusing at times. This is actually part two and part one, which was 23 minutes long and set in Dubai, can be viewed on page two of this post.

Hope not. Americans will ruin this sport. They lack culture and tradition. They only seek money.

What an ignorant sweeping statement! The French would be considered to have somewhat more "culture" than most countries and yet the Rugby there is dominated by money.
America is a vast continent, it's amazing how many people are ready to tar all the people from there with the same brush and at the same time claim to be more cultured!

I say best of luck to them!

At the end of the day, life and sport, as much as would love to be about the passion and love for the GAME, is as much about money as the reason you get up to go to work every morning!! But having been to many different American sporting events, what i will say about the US fans, is they are MORE LOYAL and MORE PASSIONATE than almost any other fans iv met before EVER!! And i for one am VERY excited about growing Rugby GLOBALLY. Its a game for EVERYONE.

Now grow up, before you get knocked back down!!

AK, you suck. I'm an American and have been a great supporter and student of Rugby for nearly 20 years. I've done nothing but give to the game, so stick it.

You have to laugh at the English commentators description of american football.

Great piece, and we've had the pleasure of interviewing Carlin and many of the world's biggest names. They have one thing in common: they are all good people that parents would welcome as role models... 1 note about the video: Sam Boyd's field is about 39 feet narrower, not 70 as the reporter says...

And you my friend (AK) lack culture just because of your opinion!

Rugby 7's is a rising sport in America solely because it will soon be an Olympic sport. They are already convincing sprinters who aren't quite fast enough to join the USA 7's team. Americans only care about indigenous sports, or Olympic sports. Shur many of the USA Eagles (15 player rugby union team) players had to quit their jobs to go to the last RWC (2011 rwc).
