BOOTS REVIEW: Canterbury's new range

Last week we gave away a pair of the all new Canterbury range of boots that features four different styles. There was a fair bit of interest, so here is a quick overview and review of what each boot is like and who it will be most suited to.

Canterbury were kind enough to send us some pairs of boots to try out, so here are the first opinions on this exciting new range that have been tailor-made for specific positional needs.

The Phoenix 2.0 Elite is a beautiful looking boot that is extremely comfortable but has a rigid feel to it, making it ideal for loose forwards who want a traditional fit but also need that extra speed in their game.

The exterior has be made with great attention to detail and as with all of these boots, looks ideal for wet-weather rugby.

The Speed 2.0 Elite is the lightest boot Canterbury has ever made, making it ideal for pacey backs whose priority is speed and stepping. It's thin exterior includes a unique, barely-there tongue, streamlining the design and no doubt contributing to it's light feel.

It has great grip, with just six main metal studs around seven plastic. The boot moulds to your foot, giving one a sense of reaching full potential with nothing holding you back. The design is bright yellow/green which some may not like, but is commonplace these days.

The third boot we tried is the Stampede 2.0 Club, a tight forwards boot that provides great comfort and durability, ideal for generating power. It has a wider fit so is perfect for players with broader feet.

This is also the most traditional looking of the four new boots, and offers great foot protection, eg: for close-quarter breakdown work and scrumming.

It's difficult to pick a favourite as they are all suited to different needs, so decide what your requirements are, and you'll find the perfect boot for you. All versions are now available on the Canterbury website.
