French U20s banned for that awful double challenge vs England

The two France U20 players that dangerously cleared out an England U20 player last weekend have been suspended following a disciplinary hearing in London. The two received red cards at the same time, after what could have been a really ugly outcome.

The two players appeared in front of a Six Nations Disciplinary Committee in London yesterday, accused of contravening Law 9.18 - A player must not lift an opponent off the ground and drop or drive that player so that their head and/or upper body make contact with the ground.

Prop Hassane Kolingar and second row Pierre-Henri Azagoh were both sent off, with just minutes left in the contest after the players simultaneously lifted and dropped England's Fraser Dingwall, with his head and/or upper body making contact with the ground, contrary to Law 9.18.

Neither player sought to contest the red card, which led to chair of the Committee, Roger Morris (Wales) finding that the offence warranted a mid-range entry point in World Rugby's table of sanctions, carrying a ten-week period of suspension.

"In each case there were no aggravating factors and sufficient mitigating factors to allow the maximum mitigation of five weeks. Both players are therefore suspended for a period of five weeks and have the right of appeal," the official statement read.
