Jacob Stockdale sets Six Nations record as Ireland take Grand Slam

It was a day to remember for Ireland after securing their third ever Championship Grand Slam, and it was even better for Jacob Stockdale after the winger set a new record for tries scored.

With seven tries scored throughout the campaign, the 21-year-old overtook Will Greenwood, Chris Ashton and Shane Williams for tries scored during a Six Nations.

Ulsterman Stockdale had already broken the record for scoring multiple tries in successive games, set by Englishman Cyril Lowe in 1914.

Ireland were easily the dominant team during this year's tournament and it was a fitting end for them to celebrate the Grand Slam on St Patrick's day against a sub-standard England.

Tries from Stockdale, Garry Ringrose and CJ Stander helped Ireland to victory, while England's consolation efforts came from Jonny May and two from Elliot Daly.

Stockdale's try in particular was a piece of magic, with Conor Murray popping to him down the blind side before a chip-and-chase and the will to get the ball down before it rolled dead.

Eddie Jones will have been particularly annoyed by this try after he extended the dead ball area for this match.

It's worth noting that this record is for the Six Nations only, as Lowe and Scotsman Ian Smith hold the record for the Five Nations with eight tries apiece.

Stockdale now has 12 tries in ten matches for Ireland, and you can view his try against England below, as well as all his tries from this tournament.
